Kohler Roofing: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide
Kohler doesn’t manufacture roofing materials. If you bought a home in Los Angeles with Kohler fixtures in the bathrooms and kitchen, the roof above them is almost certainly GAF, CertainTeed, or Owens Corning, which are the brands we install and stock parts for. We’re going to clear that up first because a lot of homeowners call us looking for Kohler roof parts, and what they actually need is someone who can identify, match, and replace the roofing system they do have, properly and with a written price. Roof repair in Los Angeles runs $470 to $2,125, and a full roof replacement is $9,440 to $23,600 depending on material and square footage. We’re an independent contractor, not affiliated with Kohler, but we do stock Kohler parts for kitchen and bath work, along with KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone, so if your roofing question leads to a bigger remodel conversation, we’re set up for that too.
Here’s the situation we see most often in Los Angeles: you’re up in the attic or on a ladder after a rain, you find a stain on the ceiling, and you start hunting for whatever brand the previous owner mentioned in the listing. The listing said Kohler kitchen, Kohler baths, maybe Kohler generator or Kohler engine if there’s one in the garage. It’s an easy jump to assume Kohler made the roof too. They didn’t. The good news is that matching the actual roofing product to the right repair is straightforward once you know what you’re looking at.
Which Kohler Models This Applies To

None, and that’s the point of this page. Kohler’s product lines cover plumbing fixtures, faucets, toilets, sinks, and bath hardware. The Kohler models you might have in your Los Angeles home are things like the Purist faucet line, Malleco or HiRise kitchen faucets, Cimarron or Santa Rosa toilets, and Archer or Bancroft sinks. None of those have anything to do with the shingles, underlayment, flashing, or vent boots on your roof.
The parts that fail on a roof belong to whichever roofing manufacturer actually produced the material. In Los Angeles, the three we work with most are GAF, CertainTeed, and Owens Corning. The compatibility question that matters is whether your current shingle is a 3-tab or architectural/dimensional profile, and whether the replacement matches in profile and color. A 3-tab shingle is roughly 36 inches wide with three cut tabs. An architectural shingle is thicker, with a dimensional, shadowed look. You can’t mix them without the patch being obvious from the street, and in some LA neighborhoods with HOA rules, obvious patches can trigger a notice. That’s a compatibility gotcha worth knowing before you buy a bundle off a shelf.
For the Kohler side of things, if the water damage from a failed roof section got into a bathroom and you need to match a Kohler fixture or trim kit, we can pull the model number off the fixture itself. Kohler stamps or laser-etches model numbers on the underside of faucet bodies, inside toilet tanks, and on the back of sink basins. For aftermarket vs OEM on Kohler parts specifically, OEM is usually the right call because Kohler’s cartridge and valve tolerances are tight, and generic replacements tend to have short lifespans. For roofing materials, GAF, CertainTeed, and Owens Corning all have network-certified replacement components that carry the same manufacturer warranty if installed by a certified contractor. We’re certified with all three.

Signs Your Kohler Roofing Is Failing
(Quick note: since Kohler doesn’t make roofing, we’re going to tell you what failing roofing actually looks like, regardless of brand.)
- Ceiling stains that darken after rain. This is the classic first signal. The stain is where water is pooling or dripping, but the actual roof breach could be several feet away, because water travels along rafters and sheathing before it drops. If it’s tan or brown, it’s old. If it’s actively wet, it’s current.
- Granules in the gutter or downspout. Shingles shed their mineral granules as they age, and in Los Angeles heat, that aging is accelerated by UV exposure. A few granules after a heavy storm is normal for an older roof. A steady buildup every time you clean the gutters means the shingle surface is degrading and losing its protective layer.
- Curling or cupping shingle edges. LA sun does this to roofs faster than rain does. A shingle that curls up at the corners or cups in the center can’t seal properly to the shingle below it, which means wind can get under it, and the roof loses its water-shedding integrity at exactly the wrong time.
- Flashing failure at penetrations. Around chimneys, skylights, and vent pipes, the metal flashing and the rubber boot are the most common leak points. The rubber boot on a plumbing vent degrades in direct sun, and once it cracks, water follows the pipe straight into the attic. This is a $470 to $2,125 repair in Los Angeles, which is far cheaper than waiting for the ceiling to come down.
- Moss or algae streaks on shaded roof sections. In canyon-adjacent LA neighborhoods like Silver Lake, Echo Park, and the Hollywood Hills, tree-shaded roof faces hold moisture. Moss lifts shingle edges and traps water against the surface. Algae stains are cosmetic, but moss is structural. If you can see it from the ground, it’s already working on the roof.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For roof repair in Los Angeles, we quote $470 to $2,125, and the range depends on what failed. A cracked vent boot replacement, a small shingle patch, or a single section of re-flashed chimney runs toward the lower end. A valley repair, multiple missing shingles, or underlayment replacement after a water intrusion runs higher. For full roof replacement, the Los Angeles range is $9,440 to $23,600, driven by square footage, pitch, number of stories, whether we’re tearing off the old roof or going over it, and material choice between GAF Timberline, CertainTeed Landmark, or Owens Corning Duration shingles.
Every quote includes the same thing: a written line-item price before any work starts, the labor to remove and replace the failed section, the new materials, and a written workmanship warranty on our side. The manufacturer covers the shingle warranty. If we touch your roof and the same leak comes back within the warranty window, the fix is on us. That’s the 365-Day Done Right Promise in black and white, not a handshake.
DIY or Call Us?
Roofing work is the one thing we’d tell almost no homeowner to do themselves. A fall from a single-story Los Angeles roof is a fall from 10 to 15 feet onto hard Southern California ground, and that’s before you factor in the steep pitch on some of the older Spanish-style and mid-century homes in the hills. High-tension is not the issue here the way it is with garage-door springs, but height is, and it’s the leading cause of construction deaths in the US. The safe DIY check is the attic: after a rain, go up with a flashlight and look for wet sheathing, dark streaks on the underside of the roof deck, or daylight coming through any penetration. From the ground, you can check for missing shingles, sagging gutters, and visible flashing gaps. Beyond that, the fix belongs to someone with safety gear, liability coverage, and a truck with the right materials already on it. Call (254) 272-5876 and we’ll send a uniformed, background-checked technician with the exact part or material, a written price, and no surprises.
FAQs

An architectural shingle roof in Los Angeles typically lasts 18 to 25 years, and it’s the sun, not the rain, that kills it. UV exposure breaks down the asphalt compounds faster than in cooler climates. If your roof was done by a previous owner and you don’t know the age, we can inspect the shingle condition, check permit history, and give you a realistic remaining-life estimate. Call (254) 272-5876 if you’re not sure what’s above your ceiling.
Most localized failures can be repaired, and that’s exactly what the $470 to $2,125 range covers in Los Angeles. A full replacement makes sense when the roof is past roughly 80% of its expected life, or when leaks are happening in multiple places and the shingle surface is visibly degraded across whole slopes. We’ll tell you honestly which one you need, with photos and a line-item price. Call (254) 272-5876 for that assessment.
A typical Los Angeles roof repair takes 2 to 4 hours from setup to cleanup, and we do most single-section repairs in one visit. A full tear-off and replacement is usually 2 to 4 days depending on size, pitch, and weather. You’ll get a live arrival time, before-and-after photos, and a digital invoice you can pay from your phone, which is how the Relay Visibility Guarantee works on every job. Call (254) 272-5876 and we’ll give you a written timeline with the quote.
We stock and install common Kohler parts like cartridges, valves, trim kits, and flush assemblies, and we can order any Kohler model-specific part by number. If a roof leak damaged your bathroom ceiling, drywall, or a Kohler fixture, we can handle the interior repair under one contract and one warranty. For roofing-specific materials, we stock GAF, CertainTeed, and Owens Corning components on the truck. Call (254) 272-5876 and we’ll confirm what’s available for your exact model.
