Toto Bathroom Remodeling: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide
If you’re remodeling a bathroom around Toto fixtures in Los Angeles, the installed cost typically lands between $10,620 and $33,040 depending on scope, and we stock the common Toto valve bodies, fill valves, flappers, and mounting hardware on our trucks. Most homeowners call us after a Toto toilet starts running constantly, a soft-close seat slams, or a shower trim kit corrodes past the point of a simple cartridge swap. Sawyer Remodeling is an independent contractor, not affiliated with Toto, but we’ve installed and serviced their product line across LA for nearly two decades under The Relay Standard.
Here’s what we see on a weekly basis: you spot a hairline crack in a Toto tank, or the flush feels weak compared to six months ago, or you’re mid-remodel and the plumber you hired ghosts before the Toto drain assembly gets seated. That’s the moment to call (254) 272-5876 and get a written price before any work starts.
Which Toto Models This Applies To

Toto splits their lineup into a few families, and the part compatibility is not interchangeable across all of them. The Drake and Drake II use a 3-inch flush valve with a specific tower-style canister seal, while the Ultramax and Neorest lines run a different bowl geometry that changes how the wax ring seats. If you have an older Promenade or Carlyle, the fill valve threads are a standard 7/8-inch ballcock, but the overflow tube height differs by model year, so a universal aftermarket fill valve from a big-box store often leaves the water level half an inch low.
The fastest way to identify what you need: lift the tank lid and look for the model number stamped inside the tank wall, usually starting with “ST” or “CST.” That number tells us the exact flush valve diameter, the gasket profile, and whether your Toto uses the older flapper system or the newer canister flush. For OEM Toto parts, you’re paying for exact fit and the factory silicone seals. Quality aftermarket equivalents from Fluidmaster or Korky work fine on entry-level Toto models, but on pressure-assist units or the skirted-trapway designs, we recommend OEM because the tolerances are tighter and a generic gasket leaks within a season. Luca Romano’s rule from the job site: if water touches it and it’s hidden behind tile, buy the right part the first time.

Signs Your Toto Bathroom Remodeling Is Failing
- Constant running between flushes. The canister seal on Toto’s 3-inch flush valve degrades over time, especially with LA’s hard water. You’ll hear a slow hiss every few minutes as water seeps past the seal and the fill valve keeps topping off the tank.
- Weak or incomplete flush. Mineral buildup inside the rim jets or a failing flapper chain means the bowl doesn’t clear on the first try. This isn’t always a part failure, but in Los Angeles water, calcium scale narrows those jets within three to five years.
- Water at the base of the toilet. The wax ring or the Toto-specific Unifit adapter has failed. On skirted models, the Unifit adapter is a plastic flange that bolts to the floor and connects the bowl to the drain, and a cracked one means pulling the toilet entirely.
- Soft-close seat slamming shut. The hinge dampers inside Toto’s SoftClose seats wear out, and once one side goes, the seat drops with a crack that eventually chips the bowl rim.
- Shower trim corrosion or stiffness. Toto’s shower valves use a ceramic disc cartridge, but the trim escutcheon and handle are chrome over zinc. After years of hard water and cleaning chemicals in LA bathrooms, the trim pits and the handle binds. The cartridge may be fine, but the trim needs replacement.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

A full Toto bathroom remodel in Los Angeles runs $10,620 to $33,040. A small bathroom refresh with a new Toto toilet, vanity, and shower trim typically lands between $5,900 and $14,160. A walk-in shower with Toto fixtures runs $5,310 to $14,160 on its own.
What drives the range: whether we’re moving plumbing, the condition of the subfloor, whether tile is coming out, and which Toto series you’re installing. A Drake toilet swap is a one-hour job with the fixture cost. A Neorest install with a dedicated GFCI circuit and supply line upgrades is a different day.
Every quote includes the parts, labor, haul-away of the old fixtures, and our written warranty. You get a line-item price before we start, and the number on the invoice matches the number you approved. No change orders because we “found something” unless you approve it in writing first.

DIY or Call Us?
You can check the model number inside the tank, verify the shutoff valve at the wall works, and confirm whether the fill valve is the issue by marking the water level and watching it for an hour. That’s useful information when you call us.
What you shouldn’t do is pull a skirted Toto toilet yourself. The Unifit adapter and the mounting blocks are Toto-specific, and if you crack the bowl or cross-thread the floor bolts, you’re buying a new fixture. Same goes for shower valve work behind tile: the risk isn’t the cartridge, it’s the water damage if the connections leak inside the wall. For anything involving supply lines or drain seals, get a trained professional. One failed DIY wax ring in a second-floor bathroom can rot a ceiling below before you notice the stain.
Call (254) 272-5876 and we’ll give you a straight answer: whether it’s a $30 fill valve or a full remodel, you’ll know the price before we touch a tool.
FAQs

A Toto fill valve and flapper typically last 5 to 7 years in LA’s hard water, while the ceramic disc cartridges in Toto shower valves routinely go 10 to 15 years. The soft-close seat dampers are usually the first thing to fail, often within 3 years of daily use. Call (254) 272-5876 if you’re replacing the same part twice, that usually points to a water quality or installation issue we can fix properly.
Fill valves, flappers, and canister seals are repair items, and we do them daily. Cracked tanks, failed Unifit adapters, and heavily corroded shower trim are replacement jobs. We’ll tell you which one you have and what each costs, always in writing before work starts.
A toilet or vanity swap is done in a day. A full bathroom remodel with Toto fixtures, tile, and shower glass typically runs 2 to 3 weeks from demo to final walkthrough. You’ll get a written schedule and daily photo updates through The Relay Visibility Guarantee, so you know who’s on site and when.
We stock the common Toto fill valves, canister seals, flappers, wax rings, and Unifit adapters on our trucks in Los Angeles. Specialty parts for Neorest or pressure-assist models usually arrive in 2 to 3 business days through our supplier network. We also carry parts and materials for the other brands we install, including KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone.
