Toto Fence Installation: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide
We stock and install Toto-compatible fence panels and hardware across Los Angeles, with typical installed pricing between $4,130 and $10,620 depending on linear footage, existing post condition, and whether your Toto is a mid-century original or a current production model. Most owners discover a problem the same way: a panel sags after a hard Santa Ana season, a gate post leans after rain, or the latch stops catching because the frame has quietly shifted over a decade of clay-soil movement.
We’re an independent contractor, not affiliated with Toto, but we’ve matched enough of their fence lines in Los Angeles to know the compatibility quirks cold. The good news is that most Toto fence failures are mechanical, not structural, which means replacement is usually a one-day job with the right parts on hand. The less-good news is that sourcing the correct Toto part number through big-box channels often wastes two weeks and still arrives wrong.
Which Toto Models This Applies To

Toto’s residential fence production splits into two eras, and the compatibility gotcha lives there. Pre-2005 Toto fence systems used a proprietary 1-5/8″ slotted post profile with clip-in panel brackets that are no longer manufactured. Current production uses a standard 2″ square post with through-bolt panel hardware, which is far easier to source. If your post measures 1-5/8″ across the face, you have the older spec, and we machine adapter brackets rather than forcing a mismatched panel into place. If you have a 2″ post, we can typically use OEM-grade aftermarket hardware without modification.
Identify your model by the aluminum tag on the inside face of the hinge-side post. Toto stamps a four-digit series code there: 300-series (light residential), 500-series (full-privacy panels), and 700-series (estate-height 7-foot). The panel width differs by series, and a 500-series panel will not seat properly in a 300-series frame even when both are technically “Toto fence.” We carry the common 500 and 700 series replacement panels on the truck; 300-series panels special-order from a Los Angeles area distributor within five business days.

Signs Your Toto Fence Installation Is Failing
- Panel sag at the top rail. The aluminum L-brackets that hold the top rail to the post are the first thing to fatigue on Toto fences in Los Angeles. UV exposure hardens the nylon bushings inside the bracket until they crack, and then the rail drops a quarter inch and the panel looks drunk.
- Gate post lean toward the latch side. LA’s clay soil expands and contracts enough through the seasons that a concrete footing poured before 2005 often shifts. The post doesn’t fail; the footing loses level. We reset the post in a deeper pour with gravel drainage at the base.
- Latch won’t catch without lifting the gate. This usually means the hinge-side post has drifted outward two or three degrees. The fix is a post reset, not a new latch, and homeowners who throw new hardware at it discover this the hard way.
- Fence panel rattles in wind. Toto’s clip-style panel retention springs lose tension over time, especially in homes within a few miles of the coast where salt air accelerates spring fatigue. The symptom is a metallic rattle during Santa Anas, and it only gets louder.
- Discoloration streaking down panel seams. That’s galvanic corrosion where the steel screws meet the aluminum panel face. The screws are failing, not the panels, but the longer they sit, the more the threaded holes oval out until a full panel replacement becomes the only option.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For a typical Los Angeles yard of 40 to 60 linear feet using Toto-compatible panels and new hardware, you’re looking at $4,130 to $10,620 installed. On the lower end: panel swaps and hardware replacement on existing sound posts. On the upper end: full post resets, gate replacement, and custom adapter fabrication for the older 1-5/8″ post spec.
What’s included on every Toto fence job: the written price before work starts (that’s The Relay Standard, and it means the number on your invoice is the number you approved), all parts and labor, cleanup and haul-away of the failed components, and the 365-Day Done Right Promise. If the fence isn’t done right, we make it right, and that’s in writing. You get live arrival tracking and photo updates before and after, because Luca Romano doesn’t believe a job is finished if you never saw what was actually done.
DIY or Call Us?
Fence panel swaps are not a high-tension hazard like garage springs or electrical panels, but they do involve lifting awkward weight, working on a ladder for top-rail work, and occasionally discovering that a “stable” post is anything but. What an owner can safely do is document the failure: measure post size, photograph the tag on the hinge post, and check each post for rock by pushing it hard at the top. What goes wrong in DIY is forcing a mismatched panel into an old frame, which bends the bracket slots and turns a $600 panel swap into a post replacement.
If you’re within Los Angeles city limits, the permit question is simple: repairs and replacements on an existing fence line generally don’t require one, but if we’re moving a property line or replacing more than 50% of the total fence, Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety wants a permit, and we pull it. Call (254) 272-5876 and we’ll tell you where your job falls, free, before anyone schedules anything.
FAQs

An installed Toto-compatible fence in Los Angeles should hold up 15 to 25 years before panel replacement, with the hardware needing attention around year 10. Coastal homes in Santa Monica or Playa del Rey see faster corrosion on fasteners; valley homes in Sherman Oaks see more post shifting from clay soil.
Yes, hardware and bracket failures are repairable, and we stock replacement brackets, tension springs, and latch components for both current and older Toto specs. Panel corrosion or structural post rot usually means replacement is the cheaper path than patching. Call (254) 272-5876 and we’ll look at photos before we ever send a truck.
Most panel and hardware jobs are a same-day install, with the work finished in four to six hours for a typical 50-foot Los Angeles yard. Post resets take longer because the new concrete needs to cure before the gate re-hangs, usually a two-day process total.
We stock the common 500-series and 700-series replacement panels, bracket kits, latch hardware, and post sleeves on the service truck, so most jobs need one visit. The older 300-series parts special-order from a Los Angeles distributor within five business days and we’ll confirm the part number on the quote before you pay anything.
If your Toto fence is failing, the fastest path to an exact number is a call. We’ll get details, confirm the series from your photos, and give you a written price for the whole job. Same number every time: (254) 272-5876.
