CertainTeed Windows & Doors: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide
Replacing a failed CertainTeed window or door in Los Angeles typically runs $5,310 to $17,700 installed, depending on size, series, and whether the frame needs rebuilding. We stock common CertainTeed replacement sashes, balances, weatherstripping, and hardware on our trucks, so most swaps happen in a single visit. Most owners discover the problem the way LA homeowners always do: a window that won’t stay up, a door that drags against the jamb after a wet winter, or condensation fogging between panes that won’t go away.
CertainTeed built a strong name in vinyl windows and doors before exiting the window business, which means thousands of LA homes still have their products in place. The parts are out there, but matching them correctly takes some know-how. That’s what we do.
Which CertainTeed Models This Applies To

CertainTeed’s main window lines you’ll see in Los Angeles homes are the Brynmawr, New Castle, and Somerton series, along with their vinyl patio doors. The gotcha: CertainTeed sold its window division years ago, so factory-new OEM parts aren’t produced anymore. What we use are new-old-stock OEM parts when we can get them, or precision aftermarket replacements made to identical dimensional specs. For most homeowners, a quality aftermarket balance or sash matched to the exact series performs as well as the original.
To identify your window, look for a small foil label on the top or side of the sash, or embossed lettering on the spacer between glass panes. If the label is long gone, we measure the sash thickness and frame profile in person to pin down the series. Key spec to know: CertainTeed double-hungs from that era commonly used 3/4″ insulated glass units, but some Somerton units used 7/8″ glass. Mixing them up means a sash that won’t seat correctly. We also work across brand lines on larger jobs: many LA remodels pair certain CertainTeed parts with KraftMaid cabinetry, Cambria countertops, or Silestone surfaces, and we keep that compatibility in mind on full-scope projects.

Signs Your CertainTeed Windows & Doors Is Failing
- Window won’t stay up. The balance system (the spring-loaded mechanism inside the jamb) has failed. CertainTeed used block-and-tackle or spiral balances depending on the series, and once the spring loses tension, the sash drops like a brick.
- Fog between the panes. The seal around the insulated glass unit has failed, letting moisture inside. In LA, the big driver is the heat-and-cool cycle from coastal fog to inland sun that flexes the seal until it cracks.
- Door drags or doesn’t latch. The slab has settled or the hinges have worn, throwing the door out of square. CertainTeed vinyl doors are generally solid, but heavy glass panels on patio sliders wear on rollers over 10 to 15 years.
- Lock mechanism feels loose or catches. The multi-point lock assembly (common on CertainTeed doors sold locally) has internal gears that strip under repeated use, especially with the fine grit that blows through the LA basin.
- Visible cracks or sun damage on vinyl frames. Southern California UV is unforgiving. Older CertainTeed vinyl can get brittle, and a cracked frame corner usually means replacing the sash or the full window rather than patching.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

Here’s what installed pricing looks like in Los Angeles for common CertainTeed window and door repairs:
| Job | Parts + Labor Range |
|---|---|
| Single window replacement (vinyl, standard size) | $5,310 – $8,850 |
| Full window replacement (multiple openings) | $8,850 – $17,700 |
| Insulated glass unit replacement (sash rebuild) | $470 – $2,125 |
| Balance or hardware replacement (per window) | $180 – $650 |
| Patio door roller / track repair | $350 – $950 |
The range is driven by glass package, frame condition, and whether we’re matching an existing CertainTeed opening or rebuilding the rough opening. Every quote is a written, line-item price before you approve anything. You’ll see the parts number, the labor line, and the total in writing, same number on the final invoice, not a penny more. Workmanship is covered under our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if something isn’t right, we make it right at no charge.
DIY or Call Us?
Some things you can check yourself: confirm whether the window is actually a CertainTeed by finding a label, note whether fogging is between panes or just on the interior surface (interior moisture is a humidity issue, not a seal failure), and clean the tracks on a sticking patio door. Where DIY goes wrong: certain balance systems are under spring tension, and releasing a block-and-tackle balance incorrectly can snap the mechanism or crack the vinyl jamb. Glass unit swaps need precise shimming and sealing, and a badly installed window leaks air and water.
If the window is fogged, dropped, cracked, or won’t latch, call (254) 272-5876. We’ll identify the part, quote it in writing, and usually have the fix done in one visit. FAQs

Most CertainTeed vinyl windows installed in LA last 20 to 30 years, but the glass seals often fail sooner, around 12 to 18 years, because of the constant thermal cycling between coastal fog and inland heat.
Yes. We can remove the sash, replace the insulated glass unit, and rebuild the seal for much less than a full window replacement. Call (254) 272-5876 and we’ll tell you if your sash is rebuildable before you spend a dime.
A standard single-window or insulated glass swap takes 1 to 3 hours on site. A multi-window replacement across a whole house is typically a 1 to 2 day job in Los Angeles, including cleanup.
We stock common balances, hardware, and weatherstripping on our trucks, and we can source glass units and full sashes from local LA suppliers within 2 business days.
