IKO Driveway & Pavers: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide
We install and replace IKO driveway pavers and paver systems throughout Los Angeles, with typical installed pricing running $8,260 to $21,240 depending on square footage, base condition, and paver style. Most paver driveway replacements take 3 to 5 working days once we’re on site, and we stock IKO-compatible pavers, edge restraints, and joint sand at our LA yard so we’re not waiting on a supplier. The way owners usually find us is simple: a corner paver cracked after years of car tires cutting the same arc, or the whole driveway started sinking where the old base washed out, or weeds are pushing up through joints that used to sit tight.
If your IKO driveway pavers are shifting, cracking, or pooling water, call (254) 272-5876 for a free estimate. We’ll measure, price it in writing, and tell you exactly what we’re replacing and why.
Which IKO Models This Applies To

IKO’s driveway and paver line splits into two main families: the interlocking concrete pavers (most common in LA’s residential driveways) and the larger-format slab pavers used for walkways and patio transitions. Within the concrete paver family, IKO runs several profiles: Holland Stone (rectangular, 4″ x 8″), Grande (larger 6″ x 9″ format), and the permeable Aqua-Line series designed for LA’s stormwater runoff requirements in certain hillside and coastal zones.
Here’s the compatibility gotcha most LA homeowners hit: IKO changed its paver thickness spec around 2018. Older installs in neighborhoods like Silver Lake, Eagle Rock, and North Hollywood often used 60mm pavers for driveway traffic. Newer stock runs 80mm, which is what we recommend for any driveway that sees a truck, SUV, or daily two-car traffic. You cannot mix 60mm and 80mm pavers in the same field and expect a flat surface. We match the existing paver thickness unless the driveway has failed structurally, in which case we’ll recommend going up to 80mm for the whole field.
To identify your exact IKO paver, flip one up and look at the underside. IKO stamps a mold code and production year there. If yours is worn smooth, measure the longest side and thickness, and that narrows it to the series within a few minutes. For OEM versus aftermarket: IKO’s genuine pavers hold color longer because they run iron-oxide pigment through the full paver body, not just a face coat. Aftermarket equivalents from local LA suppliers are often 10 to 15 percent cheaper, but the color fade in direct SoCal sun is noticeably faster. For a driveway you’re looking at for 20 years, we stock OEM IKO pavers wherever the original is still in production, and only use matched aftermarket when IKO has discontinued a color.

Signs Your IKO Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
- Pavers rocking or rattling under foot. The bedding sand has washed out or compacted unevenly underneath. In LA, this is usually water getting in at the edges or from a downspout discharging directly onto the driveway. A rocking paver is the first sign; the base is eroding below it.
- Cracks running through multiple pavers in a line. One cracked paver is impact damage. A line of cracked pavers means the base underneath has settled or heaved, and the pavers are now spanning a void. This is structural, not cosmetic.
- Sunken or low spots that hold water after rain. Los Angeles gets about 15 inches of rain a year, but it comes in concentrated bursts. If water stands for more than an hour after a storm, the base has migrated and the grade is gone. Patching the pavers won’t fix a grade problem.
- Weeds sprouting through the joints. Joint sand has been lost or contaminated with organic material. Weeds don’t break pavers, but their roots widen joints, water follows, and the base erodes faster. It’s a slow failure, but it compounds.
- Edge restraints visible or curling away. The plastic or concrete edge that holds the outside row of pavers has shifted or broken. Once the edge lets go, the pavers start walking outward under tire load. This is the most common fix we do on LA driveways under 10 years old.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

Paver driveway installation in Los Angeles runs $8,260 to $21,240, which includes tear-out of the old surface, base prep, new IKO pavers, edge restraints, joint sand, and a compacted final pass. The range is driven by three things: square footage (a two-car driveway in Sherman Oaks runs 400 to 600 square feet; a wider suburban driveway in the Valley can hit 900), base condition (weeds and standing water usually mean rebuilding the crushed-rock base from scratch), and paver series (permeable Aqua-Line runs at the higher end because of the open-graded base it requires).
What’s included, always, in writing: the exact IKO paver series and color, the thickness spec, the base materials, and the labor. No change orders mid-job, no “we found an extra layer” surprises. We price the job before we start, and the number on the invoice is the number you approved. Every paver driveway we install is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it’s not done right, we make it right. In writing, on every job.
For a smaller paver patio or walkway, expect $4,130 to $12,980 installed. If your driveway needs full replacement rather than a paver refresh, that’s $5,900 to $16,520 in LA.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely inspect your IKO driveway. Walk every paver, mark the rocking ones with sidewalk chalk, check where water pools after rain, and look at the edges. That’s worth doing, and it tells us a lot before we even arrive.
Where DIY goes wrong is lifting and resetting pavers on a failed base. If the base has eroded, resetting the pavers on top of it is laying money on sand that’s already washing away. You’ll be back where you started in a year, but now you’ve spent weekends doing it. The other thing that bites people: renting a plate compactor and running it over pavers without edge restraints installed. That sends the whole field skidding sideways. The tool costs you $90 for a day, but the repair costs more than the tool rental saved. If your driveway has multiple rocking pavers, standing water, or edge failure, call (254) 272-5876 and let us price it properly.
FAQs

With a proper base and regular joint sand top-ups, IKO concrete pavers in LA typically last 25 to 40 years before they need significant work. The pavers themselves won’t wear out under passenger vehicles; the base and joints are what fail first, usually around years 12 to 20 if water management wasn’t right from day one. Call (254) 272-5876 for an honest assessment of where your driveway sits in that timeline.
Yes, if the failure is localized: a corner section, one edge, or a single low spot can often be lifted, the base corrected, and the same pavers reset. If more than a third of the driveway is moving or the base has eroded across the whole field, patching becomes a temporary fix that costs more per square foot than doing it right once. Call (254) 272-5876 and we’ll tell you which situation you’re in before any money changes hands.
Most residential paver driveways in LA are done in 3 to 5 working days from demo to final compaction. Smaller sections with good remaining base can be a single day. We give you a live arrival time and before-and-after photos through The Relay Visibility Guarantee, so you know when we’re there and what we did, without chasing anyone.
We stock the most common IKO Holland Stone and Grande profiles in standard LA colors at our yard, so most replacements can start without a supplier wait. Discontinued colors or the permeable Aqua-Line series are ordered per job, which adds 3 to 5 business days. Either way, you’ll know the timeline before we start, and the price is written before any tools come off the truck. Call (254) 272-5876 for a free estimate.
