Bufftech Driveway & Pavers: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide
If you have a Bufftech driveway or paver product in Los Angeles and a section has cracked, shifted, or worn through, here’s the straight answer: we stock Bufftech-compatible replacement pavers and can usually match your existing pattern and color. Installed replacement for a typical driveway section in LA runs $826 to $2,124 when we’re swapping out a damaged area, while a full paver driveway install runs $8,260 to $21,240. Most owners discover the failure the same way, a paver that’s split after a heavy truck delivery, a low spot that pools water after a winter rain, or edge pavers that have wandered because the border restraint failed. The good news is Bufftech concrete pavers are modular, so a localized repair is almost always possible without tearing out the whole driveway.
Which Bufftech Models This Applies To
Bufftech’s paver lineup breaks down into a few families: the classic interlocking concrete pavers (sold in 60mm and 80mm thicknesses for residential driveways), permeable pavers, and the larger-format slab pavers. The compatibility gotcha most Los Angeles homeowners run into is thickness. A 60mm paver works fine for a patio or walkway, but a driveway that sees SUVs, delivery vans, or a weekly gardener’s truck really should have 80mm pavers, and we see plenty of 60mm driveways in LA that crack prematurely because the original installer saved a few dollars. To identify your exact part, look for a stamp on the underside of a loose paver, or measure the edge: 60mm is about 2 3/8 inches thick, 80mm is about 3 1/8 inches. The color and finish (tumbled, smooth, or textured) matter just as much for matching, and Bufftech has shifted color names over the years, so the label from a 2010 install won’t always match today’s catalog. We keep the current Bufftech color charts on hand and can order direct from their distribution network, or we’ll source a quality aftermarket equivalent if your color has been discontinued. One thing to know upfront: Sawyer Remodeling is an independent contractor, not a Bufftech dealer or affiliate, which means we match and install without being tied to any single manufacturer’s stock.

Signs Your Bufftech Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
- Hairline cracks running through multiple pavers in a row. This usually means the base underneath has settled or washed out, and the pavers are now spanning a void they were never meant to bridge. In LA’s clay-heavy soils, this is common after heavy rain seasons like the 2023 – 2024 winter.
- One paver sits noticeably higher than its neighbors. Tree roots from ficus or Chinese elm, both everywhere in Los Angeles, push pavers up slowly. You’ll see the high spot near the lawn edge or planter strip first.
- Edge pavers are pulling away from the border and the border restraint is visible. The plastic or aluminum edging has shifted or broken, and once the edge lets go, the rest of the field starts creeping outward a quarter inch a year.
- A low spot that holds water for more than a couple hours after rain. This points to a base failure underneath, not a paver problem, and if you ignore it, the pavers in that bowl will crack from freeze-thaw cycles (yes, it does freeze in the Valley and Santa Clarita occasionally) and added weight stress.
- Surface spalling or flaking on individual pavers. Bufftech pavers are concrete, and if they were sealed incorrectly or exposed to de-icing salts that someone used during a rare cold snap, the top layer can peel. This is a paver replacement, not a base repair.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In Los Angeles, a targeted Bufftech paver repair, pulling 20 to 60 damaged pavers, fixing the base, and reinstalling with fresh joint sand, runs $826 to $2,124. A full paver driveway installation, including excavation, base prep, pavers, edge restraint, and compaction, runs $8,260 to $21,240 depending on square footage, access, and whether the old driveway needs demolition and haul-off. The single biggest cost driver is what’s underneath: if the base is shot, we’re rebuilding it, not just swapping the pretty top layer. You’ll get a written price before we start, and it’s a fixed number, no change orders unless you ask for something different mid-project. The labor and the replacement pavers are covered under our workmanship warranty, and if a replacement paver cracks because we did the job wrong, we come back under the 365-Day Done Right Promise and make it right. That’s in writing, every time.
DIY or Call Us?
A single loose paver you can lift out and reset in the sand is a reasonable Saturday project if the base underneath is still solid. What goes wrong: homeowners try to fix a settling area by adding sand on top, which works for about a month, or they pull up a cracked paver and discover the base is mud and the real repair is six inches down. Bufftech driveways are not dangerous to work on the way a garage spring is, but the physical work, digging, hauling, compacting, is real labor, and a base that’s not compacted in lifts will settle again within a year. If you’ve got a crack pattern that repeats or a low spot that’s spreading, the failure is underneath and that’s where a proper fix starts. Call us at (254) 272-5876 and we’ll look at it, tell you what’s actually wrong, and give you a written price before any work happens.
FAQs

A properly installed Bufftech concrete paver driveway in Los Angeles lasts 25 to 40 years, and the pavers themselves can outlast that, but the base underneath typically needs partial rework at the 15 to 20 year mark. You’ll get more life in coastal neighborhoods like Mar Vista or Westchester, and less in areas with aggressive clay expansion like parts of the Valley. If your pavers are failing before year 10, it’s almost never a product defect, it’s a base or edge restraint problem. Call (254) 272-5876 and we’ll diagnose it honestly.
No. A cracked concrete paver cannot be glued back together in any way that survives driveway traffic, and any patch will crack again at the same seam. The right fix is to pull the cracked paver, check the base beneath it, correct the base if needed, and set a matching replacement paver. If we find the crack was caused by base settlement, we’ll tell you before we just swap in a new paver that’ll crack the same way in a year.
A targeted repair of 20 to 60 pavers with good base conditions is a one-day job in Los Angeles. A full driveway replacement runs 3 to 5 days depending on square footage, whether we’re removing an old concrete slab or asphalt driveway, and how deep the base rebuild goes. You’ll get a clear timeline in the written estimate, and under The Relay Visibility Guarantee you’ll know who’s coming and when, with photo updates before and after.
We stock the most common Bufftech colors and styles in our Los Angeles yard, and we can order less common colors or larger-format slab pavers for delivery within a few days. If your color has been discontinued, we’ll show you the closest current match and a quality aftermarket equivalent so you can choose before we order. Call (254) 272-5876 with a photo of your driveway and we’ll tell you what’s available today.
