ActiveYards Fence Installation: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide
ActiveYards fence installation in Los Angeles typically runs $4,130 to $10,620 for a full residential run, including parts, labor, and post setting. We stock the common ActiveYards aluminum and vinyl panel hardware, gate kits, and post components on our trucks, so most replacements are done in a single visit. Most owners discover the problem the hard way: a gate that suddenly drags, a panel that rattles loose in the Santa Ana winds, or a post that’s leaning after winter rains softened the soil.
If you’re standing in your yard right now looking at a sagging gate or a panel that won’t stay seated, you’re in the right place. This page covers exactly what we see with ActiveYards products in LA, what it costs to fix, and how to know whether you can handle it yourself or need a crew on it.
Which ActiveYards Models This Applies To

ActiveYards makes aluminum and vinyl fence systems. In Los Angeles, we mostly install the Aluminum Series, including the Brookhaven, Fairhaven, and Lexington styles. These share the same 2-inch and 2.25-inch post profiles, but the rail brackets and picket spacing differ. The Vinyl Series (Sierra, Cascade, and Madison) uses thicker wall posts and a snap-in picket system that’s common on modern LA homes.
The thing that trips people up: ActiveYards aluminum panels use a proprietary lock-tab bracket that seats the rail into the post. It is not a universal bracket. If you buy a generic fence bracket at a big-box store, it won’t seat correctly and you’ll get a wobble. OEM parts from the ActiveYards dealer network are the cleanest path. We’re an independent installer, not an ActiveYards dealer, but we order OEM hardware directly and keep the common brackets, post caps, and gate hinges on hand. For older models that ActiveYards no longer supports, we source compatible aftermarket brackets that match the post dimensions and picket profile. If you can find the small white label inside the post cap or on the bottom rail, that tells us the series and production year. No label? A photo of the bracket and post width gets us there.

Signs Your ActiveYards Fence Installation Is Failing
- Gate drags or won’t latch. The hinges have wallowed out or the post has shifted. In LA’s expansive clay soil, winter moisture and summer drought cycle posts out of plumb fast. The gate frame itself is usually fine.
- Panel rattles in the wind. The lock-tab bracket has cracked or the screw has backed out. We see this on older installations where installers used hardware-store screws instead of the ActiveYards self-tapping screws.
- Post leans at the base. Concrete footing has cracked, or the post was never set below frost depth. In Los Angeles, wind load on solid panels exacerbates this, especially on hillside lots in Silver Lake, Echo Park, and Mount Washington.
- Pickets popping out of the bottom rail. Vinyl expands and contracts with LA heat. If the installer didn’t leave the proper expansion gap, pickets bind and then snap out.
- White chalky residue on aluminum rails. The powder coat is oxidizing. It’s cosmetic at first, but once pitting starts, the structural aluminum underneath can weaken over years near the coast.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For most Los Angeles homes, a full ActiveYards fence replacement runs $4,130 to $10,620. If you’re only replacing a section or a gate, you’re looking at the lower end. Here’s how the numbers break down:
- Gate and hardware replacement: $700 to $1,800 depending on gate width and hinge style
- Single panel replacement (6-8 ft section): $400 to $950 installed
- Post replacement with new concrete footing: $250 to $600 per post
- Full residential perimeter (100-150 linear feet): $4,130 to $10,620
Every quote includes the parts, concrete, labor, haul-away of the old fence, and our 365-Day Done Right Promise. That means if the gate sags or the panel loosens within a year, we come back and fix it. Not prorated, not argued about. We don’t surprise you at the invoice either: the written price we hand you before work starts is the price you pay. Call (254) 272-5876 and we’ll measure the run, identify your ActiveYards series, and give you a line-item quote.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things before calling anyone. Look at the bracket screws: are they rusted or loose? A quarter-turn with a Phillips driver will tell you. Check the post for play by pushing on it. One inch of movement at the top means the footing is compromised. Those are diagnostics. The actual repair is where DIY goes wrong. Setting a post in concrete requires digging a hole 24 inches deep in LA proper, and if you’re on a hillside with hardpan or you hit old construction debris, you’ll spend a weekend and still end up with a leaning post. Aluminum and vinyl fences are not dangerous like a garage spring, but a badly set post in wind season becomes a projectile. If the gate is involved, we recommend a pro. Hinges under daily use need the right backing plate and through-bolts, not lag screws into a hollow post.

FAQs

An aluminum ActiveYards fence should last 20 to 30 years in Los Angeles, provided the posts were set correctly. Vinyl runs 15 to 25 years depending on sun exposure. Coastal salt air in Venice, Playa del Rey, and San Pedro accelerates powder-coat wear, so expect the lower end of that range within three miles of the coast.
Yes, most panels can be repaired if the post is sound and only the bracket or a few pickets failed. We only replace the full panel when the rail is bent, the aluminum is pitted through, or the vinyl has cracked in a way that compromises the panel’s structure. Call us and we’ll tell you which one you’re looking at before we quote.
A gate or single-panel replacement takes half a day. A full perimeter fence on a standard Los Angeles lot takes one to three days, depending on access, soil, and whether we’re removing old fencing. The quote always includes a schedule, and we stick to it.
We keep the common brackets, post caps, hinges, and self-tapping screws for the ActiveYards Aluminum Series and Vinyl Series on our service vehicles. If you need a specific gate latch or a rarer series part, we order it OEM and schedule the install once it lands. The photo you send us before we come out saves the back-and-forth. Call (254) 272-5876 and we’ll walk through it.
