Unilock Kitchen Remodeling: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

If you have a Unilock product in your kitchen and the finish, edge, or structural piece is failing, we can match it and install the replacement. A Unilock kitchen remodel in Los Angeles typically runs between $16,520 and $53,100 depending on scope, counter surface, and how much of the surrounding work has to come out with it. Most owners discover the problem the same way: a counter edge chips, a paver-look surface starts to hold stains, or the substrate under a Unilock-style top begins to flex when you press on it.

We’re Sawyer Remodeling, an independent Los Angeles contractor. We’re not affiliated with Unilock, but we’ve handled enough of their product lines to know exactly what fails, what matches, and what doesn’t. Luca Romano owns the company, and after two decades of swinging tools across LA, he’s the one who’s still annoyed when a kitchen surface fails five years early. That’s the standard we work to.

Which Unilock Models This Applies To

New painted shaker cabinets with an organized deep drawer

Unilock is better known for pavers and retaining walls than kitchen interiors, but plenty of Los Angeles homes have Unilock product used in outdoor kitchens, indoor-outdoor counter runs, and paver-style flooring transitions. The compatibility question comes down to three things: product series, dimension, and what the original install used as the base.

Unilock’s modular paver lines for kitchen-adjacent surfaces include the Beacon Hill, Courtstone, and Brussels Block series, each with a different depth profile. A Brussels Block paver runs about 2 3/8 inches thick, while Beacon Hill flagstone runs thinner and wider. If you’re replacing a single piece, buying the series name off the old box is not enough: you need the exact face dimension and the depth, because Unilock changed some mold profiles over the years. A paver that’s a quarter inch off in thickness will never sit flush, and you’ll feel the lip every time you slide a plate across it.

For countertops and vertical faces made with Unilock’s thinner finish products, we match by measuring the existing piece edge to edge and ordering the closest current production size. Where a true OEM piece no longer exists, we’ll tell you that up front and offer a quality aftermarket equivalent that reads as a match once installed. We don’t guess on this: a wrong match on a kitchen surface means a visible patch job, and that’s not how we leave a counter.

Signs Your Unilock Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing

  • Edge chipping along the counter or coping. This is the most common failure in Los Angeles, where UV exposure and temperature swings between day and night put real stress on paver-style edges. A chip usually means the piece was cut too tight and had no room to move, or the edge wasn’t eased before install.
  • Staining that won’t come out, even after sealing. Unilock products are porous by design, which is fine for a driveway but punishing on a kitchen surface where oil and citrus sit. Once the sealer has worn through, the stain is in the concrete itself, and the fix is replacement, not another coat of sealer.
  • A hollow sound or flex when you tap the surface. That means the substrate underneath has broken down or wasn’t built right in the first place. Los Angeles homes built on expansive soil see this more often, especially in outdoor kitchens where the base was poured thin.
  • Joints between pieces are widening or filling with debris. Polymeric sand in kitchen-adjacent paver work breaks down over time, and once it’s gone, pieces start migrating. Left alone, you’ll get lippage that catches plates and chairs.
  • Efflorescence, that white chalky film that keeps coming back. It’s mineral salts working their way out of the concrete, and it’s common in LA’s hard water and morning fog zones like the coastal basin. If it returns within weeks of cleaning, the piece is perpetually drawing moisture and needs to go.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A small remodeled galley kitchen with cabinets to the ceiling

A full Unilock kitchen remodeling job in Los Angeles runs $16,520 to $53,100. That’s the whole scope: demolition, new substrate or base prep, setting the Unilock material, edge finishing, and sealing. A smaller partial replacement like a single counter run or a stretch of kitchen flooring is where the $10,620 to $23,600 small kitchen remodel range applies.

What drives the price: how much base work has to be redone, whether we’re matching existing material or starting fresh, access to the kitchen, and whether plumbing or electrical has to move. You get a written line-item price before any work starts, and that number is the number. It doesn’t change at the door.

Every Unilock kitchen job carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it’s not done right, we make it right. That’s in writing, on every project, no fine-print qualifiers.

DIY or Call Us?

Replacing a single pavers in a patio is one thing. Replacing a kitchen surface that has to hold weight, stay flat, and look right under task lighting is a different trade. If you’re checking whether a piece is loose or whether a joint has failed, go ahead. Tap the surface. Look at the edges. Read the series name off the bottom of a piece if you can.

But taking a Unilock kitchen surface apart is where DIY goes sideways in Los Angeles more than anywhere else: the base is almost always the problem once you open it up, and rebuilding that base correctly is the only thing that stops the next failure one season later. A countertop that’s not fully supported can crack under the weight of a full stockpot, and uneven work near a cooktop is a hazard you don’t want to discover mid-dinner. Call us at (254) 272-5876, tell us what you’re seeing, and we’ll give you a straight answer about whether it’s a patch job or a pull-and-replace. The estimate is free.
