Techo-Bloc Fence Installation: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

We stock and install Techo-Bloc-compatible fence systems throughout Los Angeles, with a typical installed price of $4,130 to $10,620 depending on fence height, lineal footage, and whether we’re setting new posts or working with existing footings. Most homeowners start searching for this page after a wind storm, a car bump, or a tree limb exposes a cracked post or a shifted panel. The fence is a noise barrier and a privacy wall, so when a section starts leaning, it’s hard not to notice from the street.

We’re an independent Los Angeles contractor, not a Techo-Bloc distributor or affiliate. That matters because our recommendation isn’t tied to moving a specific product line. It’s tied to what holds up in your soil, on your slope, and against your neighbor’s bougainvillea.

Which Techo-Bloc Models This Applies To

Techo-Bloc’s fence and wall systems are modular, which is both the best and worst thing about them from an installation standpoint. The best part: the blocks, caps, and posts are machined to interlock, so a correct install goes fast and sits square. The worst part: modular tolerances mean mixing older runs with new production can create visible gap differences. That’s the compatibility gotcha most LA homeowners don’t know about until the third quote arrives.

For Techo-Bloc fence installation, the main lines we install are the Fence Block System (the tall post-and-panel configuration, usually 6 to 8 feet) and the Wall Block System (shorter, beefier units used for retaining-style fence bases or stepped lots). Each line uses its own post block, panel block, and cap unit. The caps between the Fence and Wall lines are not interchangeable. If you have a product code on a pallet label, send us a photo; if not, measure the face height of one block with a tape measure and we’ll identify it from that.

OEM Techo-Bloc is the smart call when the fence is visible from the street or an HOA cares. Aftermarket equivalents from local masonry supply yards can save 15 to 20 percent, but color matching on a partially failed fence is a gamble. We’ll be honest about that before you spend a dollar.

Signs Your Techo-Bloc Fence Installation Is Failing

  • Bottom course blocks are spalling or flaking at the soil line. This is water wicking up through the footing. LA’s wet winters followed by hot summers cycle moisture through the block face, and that freeze-thaw isn’t the issue here; it’s mineral expansion. The fix is usually drainage correction, not just block replacement.
  • A post block has twisted or rotated. That means the reinforcing bar inside the post cavity has shifted or was never set deep enough. You can’t see rebar from outside, but a rotated post is a dead giveaway for a footing that’s undersized for that fence’s wind load.
  • Panels have popped outward. Modular blocks rely on a tight fit. When one panel shifts, pressure transfers to the next. By the time you see two shifted panels, the internal connector system has likely broken somewhere in the run.
  • Caps are loose and rattle when you push on them. Adhesive failure happens fast in direct LA sun. Caps are the first things to come loose on a fence that’s otherwise sound. Quick fix if caught early; reseating a cracked cap is a different job.
  • The fence line is visibly out of plumb when you sight down it. The ground settles, especially in hillside areas like Mount Washington or Echo Park. A fence leaning more than an inch over four feet needs attention before the next heavy rain.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A built-in window seat in a bay window

For Techo-Bloc fence installation in Los Angeles, you’re looking at $4,130 to $10,620 installed for a typical 40 to 60 linear foot run at standard height. Three things drive the range. First is lineal footage; more fence, more blocks, more post units. Second is access; if we can stage material in the driveway, the job is faster and cheaper than a backyard run where every block comes through the house on a dolly. Third is the footing condition. Removing and re-pouring footings adds real labor, and in older LA hillside lots, those footings are never where you expect them.

What’s included: all block units, caps, adhesive, rebar where the engineering calls for it, gravel and drainage fabric at the base, haul-off of the failed material, and a written line-item price before any work starts. That’s our standard under The Relay Standard, and the 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the labor for a full year. If a block shifts because of our install, we fix it. No invoice. No debate.

DIY or Call Us?

A modular block fence is not like a vinyl fence where you can pop a panel out and drop a new one in. Techo-Bloc fence installation requires setting post cavities, running reinforcing bar, and managing drainage at the base course. These are heavy units. A single post block can weigh 40 to 60 pounds. Trying to set six of them solo is how backs get wrecked and fences end up crooked.

What’s safe to check yourself: photograph the failing section from multiple angles, measure the block face height, and look for any exposed rebar or cracked footing concern. What’s not safe to DIY: lifting and setting post blocks, cutting caps, or trying to shim a leaning fence back to plumb with wedges. That shim trick lasts about 18 months in LA soil, and then you pay for the full fix anyway. Call (254) 272-5876 and we’ll come out and give you a straight answer and a written price.
