Quikrete Bathroom Remodeling: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide
Quikrete bathroom remodeling in Los Angeles typically runs $10,620 to $33,040 installed, and most full remodels take three to five weeks from demo to final grout. We stock Quikrete-compatible mortar beds, waterproofing membranes, and drain assemblies for pan replacements on our trucks, so we’re not waiting on a supply house when your shower floor has already failed. The way most homeowners find us: water staining on the ceiling below the bathroom, crumbling grout at the pan perimeter, or a shower floor that flexes when you step on it. That flex is the tell: Quikrete deck mud over a failed liner has lost its bond, and the floor is moving in ways it was never designed to move.
Which Quikrete Products This Applies To

Quikrete makes two product families that show up in Los Angeles bathrooms: the Sand/Topping Mix (1103) used for pre-slope and shower pan float beds, and the Hydraulic Water-Stop Cement (1126) used to patch structural leaks before waterproofing goes down. The 1103 is the one we see fail most often in LA homes built before 2010: the original installer mixed it too wet, skipped the vinyl liner, or floated it too thin over a wood subfloor. If your shower was built with a hot-mop underlayment, the Quikrete on top is usually sound. If it was a fiberglass pan with tile set directly over it, the Quikrete isn’t the problem, the pan is.
Identifying your setup matters because it changes the repair: measure the shower footprint, check whether there’s a crawlspace or slab under the bathroom, and look for a rubber membrane edge sticking out behind the tile at the drain. For Quikrete-specific repairs, OEM isn’t really a thing here, it’s a dry mix, not a branded part. The quality variance comes from how it’s mixed and floated, not from who bagged it. We use Quikrete 1103 straight from the bag because it holds a 4:1 sand-to-cement ratio consistently, and we’ve never had a callback on a pan we floated with it.
One compatibility gotcha that trips up DIYers: Quikrete 1103 cures fast in Los Angeles summer heat. In Santa Clarita or the Valley when it’s 95 degrees outside, you have roughly 30 minutes of working time before the mix starts setting in the wheelbarrow. We mix in small batches and keep the bags out of direct sun. That’s the kind of thing you learn by doing it wrong once.

Signs Your Quikrete Bathroom Remodeling Is Failing
- Shower floor flexes when you step on it. The Quikrete bed has debonded from the subfloor or cracked through. This means the pan is no longer carrying weight the way it should, and every step is working the crack wider.
- Grout lines near the pan perimeter stay dark long after the shower dries. Water is wicking up from inside the mortar bed, which means the pan isn’t draining and the Quikrete is holding moisture against your framing.
- Musty smell that doesn’t leave after cleaning. Standing water inside a failed mortar bed feeds mold and mildew below the tile. The smell is coming from inside the assembly, not the surface.
- Loose floor tiles around the drain. The Quikrete around the drain collar is the thinnest point in any float. When it fails there first, tiles lift and the drain assembly starts to move.
- Water stains on the ceiling below. By the time this shows up, the pan has been leaking for weeks or months. The Quikrete isn’t waterproof, the membrane under it failed, and the bed is soaked through.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A shower pan replacement using Quikrete 1103 in Los Angeles runs $5,310 to $14,160 installed, which covers demo of the old pan, inspection of the subfloor, new vinyl liner or hot-mop, Quikrete float, and tile back over it. A full bathroom remodel runs $10,620 to $33,040, and the spread depends on whether you’re keeping the existing footprint or moving plumbing, what tile you choose, and whether we’re replacing the valve, drain, and waterproofing assembly or just the finish surfaces.
The price is written before we start, not after we open the wall. If our crew finds rotted framing under the pan, that’s a change order with photos and a new number before we touch it, not a surprise on the invoice. Every bathroom remodel gets the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if something fails and it’s our workmanship, we come back and make it right. That includes the Quikrete bed, the waterproofing, and the tile over it. We also include before-and-after photo updates and a live arrival time under The Relay Visibility Guarantee, because you should know who is walking in and when, not sit around waiting on a four-hour window.

Here’s the honest split: you can safely handle the demo of a failed tile surround, pulling old grout, and even mixing a small batch of Quikrete to patch a tile or two on a wall. What you should not DIY is a shower pan float over a wood subfloor in Los Angeles, because a shower pan failure doesn’t stay in the shower. It rots the joists under your bathroom and pours water into whatever room is below. The slope has to be dead right: a quarter inch per foot to the drain, no flat spots, no birdbaths. Get it wrong and water pools, seeps, and you’re redoing the whole thing in two years plus structural framing.
Also, the liner under the Quikrete is the actual waterproofing layer. The Quikrete is just the slope and the weight carrier. If you don’t understand that, you shouldn’t float a pan. Call us at (254) 272-5876 and we’ll quote it properly. Good work doesn’t need a sales pitch, it just needs to be done right.
FAQs

A properly floated Quikrete shower pan over a solid membrane lasts 25 to 30 years in Los Angeles. The pan fails before the Quikrete does. When water gets under the tile and sits against the liner, the mud bed stays saturated and the assembly rots from the inside out.
Small cracks in the tile or grout can be repaired, but a failed pan under a moving Quikrete bed cannot. Once the bed has cracked or debonded, patching the surface just hides the problem until the ceiling below caves in or the subfloor rots through. Call (254) 272-5876 for an honest assessment, we’ll tell you which situation you have.
Plan on four to six working days: demo day, membrane and Quikrete float day with 24 to 48 hours of cure time in LA’s dry climate, then tile, grout, and caulk. We give you a written schedule before we start, and you get photo updates as each step closes out.
Yes. Our trucks carry Quikrete Sand/Topping Mix 1103 and Hydraulic Water-Stop Cement 1126 as standard inventory, which means we don’t schedule a second visit just because the supply house was out of bagged mud. We also stock accessories from KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone when the remodel scope calls for custom vanities or stone tops along with the pan work.
