ActiveYards Driveway & Pavers: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide
If you own an ActiveYards fence, gate, or railing system and the driveway or paver section is failing, you’re probably dealing with one of three things: a shifted post that pulled out of its concrete footing, a warped or seized gate hinge assembly, or pavers that have sunk because the base layer compacted unevenly. We stock ActiveYards-compatible posts, hinges, gate hardware, and paver-edge trim, and most driveway-side fixes run between $295 and $825 installed in Los Angeles. If it’s a full paver driveway replacement tied to an ActiveYards gated entry, you’re looking at $8,260 to $21,240 depending on square footage, paver grade, and how much of the existing base can be salvaged. You’ll usually notice the problem first as a gate that drags, a post that leans into the driveway line, or pavers that shift under your tires near the gate track.
Which ActiveYards Models This Applies To
ActiveYards builds its fence and gate lines around a modular aluminum frame system, and the driveway-side hardware crosses several series, including the Estate, Regal, and Classic lines. The compatibility gotcha most owners hit: ActiveYards changed its gate hinge bracket spacing on posts manufactured after 2018, moving from 24-inch to 28-inch bolt centers on the heavier-duty estate gates. So a hinge kit ordered for an older install won’t line up without an adapter plate, which we keep on hand. To identify what you have, check the post cap or the inside face of the gate stile for a small etched alphanumeric code. The first two letters tell you the series, and the numbers after are the rail profile. When it comes to replacement parts, OEM ActiveYards components carry the same powder-coat warranty and color match as your original install. Quality aftermarket equivalents exist for hinges and rollers, but we only recommend them on the Classic line where the load rating is lower. On an Estate gate spanning 14 feet or more, stick with OEM. The wind load across a Los Angeles canyon property, especially in areas like Encino or Tarzana near the 405 corridor, will punish a cheaper roller set within a season.

Signs Your ActiveYards Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
- Gate scrapes the pavers or concrete at the swing arc. This is almost always a sagging hinge or a post that has shifted out of plumb. The paver surface doesn’t usually move first; the gate hardware does. If the drag is on the latch side, the hinge post footing has probably settled.
- Pavers around the gate posts sink or tip. The base under the post footing was either sand-only without a proper crushed-rock lift, or water has been working its way under the pavers along the post line. In Los Angeles, our wet winters in the foothills, places like La Cañada or Sherman Oaks, accelerate this fast because of the clay-heavy soil expanding and contracting.
- Gate won’t close without lifting or shoving. That’s a bent hinge or a stretched tension cable if your ActiveYards system uses a self-closing spring mechanism. The tension cable stretches over time, and once it does, the gate’s natural rest position drifts out of alignment with the catch post.
- You hear a metal-on-metal scrape or a squeak that keeps coming back after lubricating. Squeaks that return within days mean the roller or hinge barrel itself is worn, not just dry. Once the internal nylon sleeve in the active hinge is gone, lubricant doesn’t fix it.
- Pavers crack along the driveway edge near the gate track or post line. This is a load problem, not a paver-quality problem. When the base compacts under vehicle weight and the pavers bridge across a soft spot, they crack exactly where the support drops off. You’ll usually see a diagonal crack pattern running toward the gate post.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For ActiveYards driveway-side repairs in Los Angeles, here’s what you should expect, installed:
- Single hinge kit replacement (OEM): $295 – $620, including post realignment if needed
- Gate roller and tension cable replacement: $350 – $710, both sides adjusted and tested
- Post reset with new concrete footing (single post): $410 – $825, including paver removal and re-set around the post
- Paver edge repair along gate track (up to 20 linear feet): $590 – $1,180, including compacted base repair
- Full paver driveway replacement with ActiveYards gate integration: $8,260 – $21,240, depending on square footage, paver grade, and drainage work
The range comes down to three things: how much of the existing base is still sound, whether the gate posts need new concrete, and what paver grade you’re matching. Travertine-look pavers run higher than standard concrete units. We write the price before we start, parts and labor separated so you see exactly what you’re paying for. And every repair carries our written guarantee in full.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely photograph the part, read the etched code off the post cap or gate stile, and check whether the hinge bolts are snug. That’s useful. What you shouldn’t do is attempt to shim a leaning gate post or reset pavers around a post that carries the swing load of a 200-pound gate. The post is under constant lateral tension, and if the footing lets go while you’re working on it, that gate comes down hard. Luca Romano has seen enough crushed fingers and cracked driveways to say this plainly: gate hardware and post footings are not a weekend YouTube project. Call us at (254) 272-5876 and we’ll match the part, give you a written price, and have it done.
FAQs

In Los Angeles, an ActiveYards aluminum gate with properly set concrete footings will last 15 to 20 years before the hinges need real work, but the pavers around it often need attention at the 7-to-10-year mark because of soil movement and vehicle load. Coastal-adjacent neighborhoods with salt air, like Playa del Rey or Marina del Rey, will show hardware corrosion sooner than inland areas. Call (254) 272-5876 for an honest assessment of what you’re looking at.
Yes, and that’s what we do in most cases: replace the hinge kit, reset the post if it’s moved, and re-lay the affected pavers. Full gate replacement only makes sense when the frame itself has been hit by a vehicle or the aluminum has stress cracks at the hinge mounts. We don’t sell you a gate when a bracket swap fixes it.
A hinge and roller replacement is usually done in half a day, including post realignment. A post reset with new concrete takes a full day because the footing needs to cure enough to hold the gate before we re-hang it. Paver edge repairs come in around a day. You’ll have a written timeline before we start, and we stick to it.
We stock the common ActiveYards hinge kits, roller assemblies, tension cables, post caps, and paver-edge trim for the Classic, Regal, and Estate lines on the truck. Oddball stuff, like color-matched post caps in a custom powder-coat, may take a few days from the supplier. We’ll tell you which one you’re in before you pay a cent.
No. The price we write before we start is the price you pay. If we find something underneath, like a failed post footing, we stop and show you what we’re seeing and give you a written change before any additional work happens. That’s how every Sawyer Remodeling job runs, and it’s part of The Relay Standard: live arrival time, before-and-after photos, and a digital invoice paid from a link.
