Cambridge Pavers Home Additions & ADU: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide
Home additions and ADUs built with Cambridge Pavers products in Los Angeles typically run $53,100 to $153,400 installed, depending on square footage, foundation work, and whether you’re building up or out. If your Cambridge Pavers paver system, retaining wall block, or paving stone component has failed, cracked, or shifted, we stock compatible replacements and can usually source specialty pieces within days. Most owners discover the problem after a rain event shifts the sub-base, or when a retaining wall corner starts bulging and the pavers no longer sit flush.
We’re Sawyer Remodeling, and we’re an independent contractor serving Los Angeles. We’re not affiliated with Cambridge Pavers, but we’ve worked with their product line long enough to know exactly what holds up in LA soil and what doesn’t.
Which Cambridge Pavers Models This Applies To

Cambridge Pavers makes three main product families that show up in LA home additions and ADU projects: the Ledgestone and MaytRx wall systems, the Pavingstones line (including the popular RoundTable and Sherwood collections), and their ArmorTec surface treatment, which is applied at the factory, not on-site. Within each family, sizes vary: paving stones run 2-3/8″ thick for pedestrian use and 3-1/8″ for driveways, while wall blocks are typically 3″, 6″, or 8″ deep. If you’re replacing a single failed paver, you need the exact mold pattern, not just the color, because Cambridge runs multiple molds per color to create the blended look.
The OEM-versus-aftermarket question matters here. For paving stones, aftermarket equivalents rarely match the color blend or the mold chamfer, so we recommend OEM for visible surfaces. For polymeric sand, joint stabilizer, and base aggregate, quality aftermarket products from suppliers like Techniseal or Alliance Gator perform as well or better than Cambridge’s own line, often at 20-30% less.
A compatibility gotcha we see constantly in Los Angeles: Cambridge changed their color formulation process around 2018. Pre-2018 pavers in the same color name can be noticeably lighter or darker than current production. If your paver is more than six years old, we always color-match against a physical sample before ordering, because the name alone will burn you.

Signs Your Cambridge Pavers Home Additions & ADU Is Failing
- Pavers sinking or pooling water after rain. This almost always means the sub-base was under-compacted or washed out. LA’s clay-heavy soil expands and contracts with moisture, which accelerates the problem. The fix requires lifting the pavers and re-compacting the base, not just adding sand on top.
- Retaining wall blocks leaning or separating at the seams. Cambridge wall blocks depend on a proper gravel backfill and drainage behind the wall. When that drainage fails, hydrostatic pressure pushes the wall forward. You’ll see the top course start to overhang the course below it.
- White haze or surface flaking called efflorescence or spalling. Efflorescence is cosmetic and cleanable. Spalling, where the paver surface actually flakes off, usually traces back to improper sealer application or using de-icing salts that attack the concrete. Los Angeles doesn’t get snow, but pool overspray and hard water can do similar damage.
- Joint sand disappearing between pavers. Ants, heavy rain, or aggressive power washing strip the polymeric sand from the joints. Once the sand is gone, pavers start shifting under foot traffic and the interlock system breaks down. Re-sanding is a maintenance item, but it needs to happen before the pavers crack.
- Cracks running in a straight line across multiple pavers. A single cracked paver is a material issue. A crack that jumps from paver to paver in a line means the base has a structural failure underneath, often a poorly compacted trench or a tree root pushing up. Covering it with new pavers won’t fix what’s happening below.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For a Cambridge Pavers home addition or ADU project in Los Angeles, the full build runs $53,100 to $153,400. That’s the range for design, permits, foundation, framing, roofing, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, drywall, finishes, and the Cambridge paver work for patios, walkways, or retaining walls connected to the addition. If you’re repairing just the paver component of an existing structure, the cost drops significantly: paver patio repair typically runs $4,130 to $12,980, and driveway paver replacement lands at $8,260 to $21,240.
What drives the range in Los Angeles specifically: soil conditions (expansive clay in the Valley means deeper footings than sandy soil near the coast), seismic code requirements, and whether your ADU needs a new electrical service panel or can tie into the existing one. Every quote we give is a written line-item price before any work starts. That number is the number you pay, no change orders unless you ask for something different. The work is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things yourself: look for water pooling after rain, check whether joint sand has washed out, and eyeball any retaining wall for lean or spreading. What you shouldn’t do is start pulling up pavers or rebuilding a retaining wall without understanding what’s underneath. Retaining walls over four feet in Los Angeles require an engineered design and a permit. A wall that fails can drop several tons of soil onto whatever is downhill from it, including people. That’s not a handyman project, and it’s not a YouTube weekend.

FAQs

With a properly compacted base and regular joint sand maintenance, Cambridge Pavers paving stones should last 25 to 40 years in Los Angeles, though the color may fade gradually with UV exposure. Retaining wall block lasts 50-plus years if the drainage behind it was built correctly. The pavers usually outlast the structures they surround when the base is done right.
If your pavers failed before the 10-year mark, the problem was almost certainly the installation, not the product. Call (254) 272-5876 and we’ll tell you what we’re seeing, free.
Yes, in most cases individual pavers or small sections can be lifted, the base re-leveled, and the same pavers reinstalled. This works when the pavers themselves are intact and the failure is in the sub-base or joint sand. If the pavers are cracked, spalled, or color-faded beyond matching, replacement makes more sense.
We’ll give you an honest recommendation either way. Call (254) 272-5876 for a free estimate and we’ll tell you what’s salvageable.
A typical paver patio repair of 200 to 400 square feet takes one to two days: lift the affected area, re-compact the base, reinstall the pavers, and re-sand the joints. Larger areas or retaining wall work add time. A full ADU build with Cambridge paver integration runs three to six months with permitting.
