CWS Driveway & Pavers: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide
We stock and install CWS-compatible driveway and paver parts across Los Angeles, with most replacements running between $4,130 and $21,240 installed depending on whether you’re repairing a section or replacing the full run. The typical discovery moment is a cracked paver, a sunken section after rain, or a driveway edge that’s started crumbling into the street. You notice it on a Sunday, ignore it for two weeks, and by the time you call, water has gotten underneath and turned a $500 repair into a $5,000 replacement.
Sawyer Remodeling is an independent contractor, not a CWS dealer or affiliate. That matters because we don’t have a reason to push a full replacement when a section repair will hold. We’ve worked with CWS pavers long enough to know which series hold up in LA’s dry-heat-and-downpour cycle and which ones start spalling after five summers of direct sun.
Which CWS Models This Applies To

CWS driveway and paver systems break down into three rough families: interlocking concrete pavers (the most common), permeable pavers designed for LA’s stormwater runoff rules, and slab-style driveway systems that use larger format pieces. The interlocking series run 60mm and 80mm thick, while the permeable line goes 80mm minimum because the joint gaps do the drainage work.
Here’s the gotcha we see all the time: the paver color and pattern will not tell you which generation you have. Two neighbors with identical-looking CWS driveways can have pavers from different production runs, and the dimensions vary by a few millimeters. That small difference means a replacement paver from a mismatched lot will sit proud or sink below the surrounding pieces. We measure before we order, every time.
For the OEM-versus-aftermarket decision on CWS parts: if you want an exact color match, OEM from CWS is the only safe path. Aftermarket equivalents work fine for base layers and edge restraints, but the top surface pieces should come from CWS or a supplier who can confirm lot compatibility. We’ll tell you which one your repair actually needs and price it accordingly.

Signs Your CWS Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
- Low spots that hold water after rain. This means the base layer under the pavers has settled or washed out. In Los Angeles, it’s usually a broken sprinkler line or a downspout dumping water at one corner. The water pools, then the pavers start rocking underfoot.
- Pavers that rock when you step on them. Loose pavers are almost never a paver problem. The sand joint between pieces has eroded, or the edge restraint has shifted. Left alone, the rocking motion cracks the paver itself.
- Crumbling edges where the driveway meets the street or sidewalk. This is usually vehicle weight on an edge that was never properly restrained. In LA, tree roots from parkway trees make it worse: the root grows, pushes the edge out, and every car tire finishes the job.
- Color fading and surface pitting on older CWS pavers. This is cosmetic at first, but pitting opens the paver’s surface to moisture absorption. In LA’s summer heat, that absorbed water expands and causes the top layer to pop off. We call it spalling, and the fix is replacement once it starts spreading.
- Weeds growing through joints in the same spots every spring. The sand joint is gone and soil has filled the gap. Weeds are the symptom. Water getting to the base layer is the disease. Once the base softens, the pavers above it start moving.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

In Los Angeles, most CWS driveway and paver work falls into three bands. Paver patio installation runs $4,130 to $12,980. A paver driveway installation lands between $8,260 and $21,240. A full driveway replacement, which includes tearing out whatever is there and rebuilding the base, ranges $5,900 to $16,520 depending on whether you’re pulling old asphalt or old pavers.
Here’s what drives the range: the condition of the base underneath, how many square feet need work, whether we’re matching existing CWS pavers or starting fresh, and site access. A narrow Los Angeles hillside driveway with no room for equipment costs more in labor than a flat front-yard driveway with a clean drop zone.
Every quote includes the written line-item price before we touch anything, the paver material (OEM CWS or confirmed compatible), the base repair, sand joints, edge restraints, and haul-away of the old material. The 365-Day Done Right Promise applies: if a section settles or a paver cracks in the first year, we make it right, in writing, no argument.
DIY or Call Us?
For a single cracked paver that hasn’t shifted, you can sometimes pop it out with a flat pry bar, re-level the sand underneath, and set it back in. That’s a Saturday-morning fix if you have the paver on hand. What you shouldn’t do is try to re-level a settled section, rebuild an edge, or replace pavers on a slope. The base layer is doing the real work, and if you don’t compact it properly in layers, you’ll have a wavier driveway than you started with and a pile of gravel that has nowhere to go.
We also don’t recommend renting a plate compactor and going after a large driveway yourself. The tool is straightforward. Knowing how many passes, what moisture level, and what order to layer in the base is where Los Angeles DIY jobs go sideways. FAQs

A properly installed CWS paver driveway in Los Angeles lasts 25 to 30 years before the base needs serious attention, though the surface color will fade noticeably after about a decade of direct sun. The pavers themselves rarely fail. It’s the base, the joints, and the edges that give out first.
Small corner chips can sometimes be filled, but a paver with a crack running through the middle will keep cracking because vehicle weight flexes the two halves. Replacement is the only permanent fix for a cracked paver. Call (254) 272-5876 and we’ll match the replacement to your existing lot.
A typical section repair in Los Angeles, meaning 50 to 200 square feet with base work, takes one to two days. Single-paver swaps take under an hour once the replacement is on hand. We’ll give you the timeline in the written estimate before you approve anything.
We keep common CWS interlocking paver profiles and edge restraints in our LA inventory, along with joint sand and base material. Odd colors or larger format pieces are special-ordered, and we’ll give you the lead time upfront. If we don’t stock it, we tell you before you ever schedule the work.
