Mr-Glass Construction in Los Angeles, CA | Sawyer Remodeling
We provide independent Mr-Glass shower and glass enclosure service across Los Angeles, from repair to full installation. What makes our Mr-Glass work different here comes down to one thing: we know this city’s water, its shifting walls, and its inspection code well enough to install glass that stays square and clear. We’re Sawyer Remodeling, led by Luca Romano, and we’ve been setting Mr-Glass enclosures in Los Angeles homes for over two decades. Call (254) 272-5876 for a written estimate before any work starts.
Why Los Angeles Residents Choose Us for Mr-Glass Service

We’re not a manufacturer hotline and we don’t sell from a catalog. We’re an independent Mr-Glass service provider, which means when we tell you a panel can be polished or a track needs full replacement, that recommendation comes from what we’ve seen in Los Angeles bathrooms, not from a warranty script. Our crew has installed and repaired Mr-Glass sales & service systems across every housing type this city throws at us, from 1920s bungalows with out-of-level curbs to newer condo builds with tight glass tolerances.
Luca Romano grew up in Silver Lake back when it was mostly working-class families and corner hardware stores. He learned framing and finish carpentry at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College, then spent years watching his uncle rebuild a duplex one weekend at a time. That’s the background behind our approach: measure twice, write the price down, and don’t guess. We carry factory-replacement Mr-Glass panels, sweeps, and hardware when a kit is still serviceable. When it’s not, we’ll say so plainly and spec the better fix.

Common Mr-Glass Construction Problems We Solve in Los Angeles
Here’s what we actually see when we walk into a Los Angeles bathroom with a Mr-Glass system:
- Hard-water scale and mineral etching on glass panels. Los Angeles tap water is notably hard, and unsealed frameless enclosures go cloudy within a couple of seasons. Once etching sets in past polishing range, the honest call is usually glass replacement, not another coat of sealant.
- Pivot and hinge hardware corrosion. Mr-Glass kits installed on an unlevel curb or shallow overlap develop sagging doors that scrape the jamb within the first year. The hinge binds, the door drops, and the glass starts catching.
- Curb and sill failure beneath the enclosure. Cracked grout, wicking, and efflorescence at the base show up as rust streaks under the aluminum track. Water got behind the curb, and the damage is happening underneath, not on top.
- Leaks at the sliding-door overlap and header sweep. When Santa Ana-driven dry spells shift wall framing, the panel gap opens up and the overlap no longer seals. Los Angeles sees this more than most cities because the humidity swing between summer monsoonal moisture and October winds is severe.
- Glass installed over an ungraded or flat pan. If the pan doesn’t slope correctly toward the drain, water pools at the Mr-Glass track and the silicone fails early. We see this constantly in DIY or rushed flips.
Mr-Glass Service in Los Angeles: What Local Conditions Mean for Your Equipment
Los Angeles code enforces dynamic water-pressure testing and curbed-shower requirements at final inspection for tub-to-shower conversions. This is the part generic Mr-Glass pages skip. A Mr-Glass panel has to be plumbed to drain into a graded pan before the glass goes in, not slid onto the existing tub deck and siliconed. In neighborhoods like Silver Lake, where the housing stock dates to the 1920s and 1930s, those old tub decks were never level and were certainly never designed to hold a frameless glass system. Off Micheltorena Street, we pulled an original Mr-Glass frameless kit whose glass was etched by LA’s hard water and whose pivot door had dropped onto a 1/4-inch paper-thin curb. We reset the pan with a sloped mortar bed, set new 3/8-inch Mr-Glass panels, and swapped the OEM pivots for adjustable aftermarket hinges. The enclosure clears every swing now, and it passes inspection because the pan drains correctly first. That order of operations, pan before glass, is non-negotiable in Los Angeles.
Mr-Glass Models & Products We Service in Los Angeles
We work on the full Mr-Glass sales & service line that shows up in Los Angeles homes: frameless glass shower enclosure kits in both 5/16-inch and 3/8-inch glass, semi-frameless hinged and pivot shower doors, the sliding glass shower enclosure series, and acrylic and glass bathtub/shower door kits. On the parts side, we carry factory-replacement Mr-Glass glass panels, sweeps, and hardware where the kit is still serviceable. When the OEM set is discontinued, we spec quality aftermarket rollers and seals, not whatever’s cheapest on a shelf. If the frame is out of square or the glass is etched past polishing, we’ll tell you replacement is the honest call over patching.

FAQs – Mr-Glass Construction in Los Angeles
Sometimes. Light mineral scale responds to professional polishing with cerium oxide compounds. But Los Angeles hard water etches into the glass surface over time, and once the pitting is deep, polishing won’t bring it back. We’ll inspect the glass and tell you straight whether polishing or panel replacement makes more sense. Call (254) 272-5876 and we’ll take a look.
Yes. LADBS requires a permit for tub-to-shower conversions because the plumbing rough-in changes and the pan must pass dynamic water-pressure testing at final inspection. Anyone telling you otherwise is cutting a corner that will surface later, either at inspection or as a leak under the Mr-Glass track. We pull the permit on every conversion we do in Los Angeles.
It depends on the curb and the pan. If the existing tile shower is properly graded and the curb is level and solid, a Mr-Glass system can often go in with no demolition. If the pan is flat, the curb is cracked, or water has wicked behind the tile, installing glass over it just hides the failure. We’ll evaluate the existing shower before recommending either path.
The overlap seals in Mr-Glass sliding systems fail when the wall framing shifts, which Los Angeles homes do during Santa Ana wind cycles and after minor seismic movement. If the gap just opened slightly, a new sweep and adjusted roller may restore the seal. If the wall has moved enough that the panels no longer line up, the fix is realignment or frame correction. Call (254) 272-5876 and we’ll diagnose it.
We’re an independent service provider, not an authorized Mr-Glass warranty station. We use factory-replacement Mr-Glass parts when the kit is still serviceable and the OEM components are available. When a line is discontinued, we spec quality aftermarket rollers and seals. That independence means our recommendations don’t bend toward what a manufacturer requires, only toward what the enclosure actually needs.
