Oldcastle Bathroom Remodeling: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

If you own a home in Los Angeles with an Oldcastle bathroom fixture or surround that’s cracking, leaking, or failing at the seams, replacement and full remodeling typically runs $10,620 – $33,040 installed, depending on scope and materials. Most Oldcastle failures we see involve acrylic surrounds, fiberglass pans, or caulk joints that have separated after years of California’s hard water and temperature swings. The good news: we carry Oldcastle-compatible surrounds, pans, and trim kits on our trucks, and we can often complete a full swap in two to three working days.

How owners usually find us: they notice water staining on the ceiling below a second-floor bath, or the pan flexes underfoot, or the surround has pulled away from the studs enough to let moisture behind the wall. By the time it’s visible, the part is past saving.

Which Oldcastle Models This Applies To

Oldcastle bath products span several lines, and the compatibility gotcha is this: the drain location and surround dimensions are not universal. A 32-inch pan from one Oldcastle series will not always drop into a 32-inch opening from another line, because the drain rough-in can differ by up to two inches. We always measure the existing pan’s drain center, the surround’s flange width, and the wall stud spacing before quoting.

Here’s the identification shortcut: most Oldcastle surrounds have a stamped model number on the back side of the top flange, and pans carry it on the underside near the drain. If you can pull those numbers before calling, we can confirm fitment over the phone. If you can’t, no problem, our techs check on site. As for OEM versus aftermarket, we lean OEM when the part is still in production because Oldcastle’s color codes (bone, white, biscuit) don’t always match aftermarket equivalents. When a series is discontinued, we source quality aftermarket pans and surrounds that meet the same dimensional specs, and we tell you the brand before we order it, never after.

Signs Your Oldcastle Bathroom Remodeling Is Failing

  • Pan flex or a soft spot when you step in. The fiberglass or acrylic has lost its support underneath, usually from a gap in the mortar bed or framing that shifted. This cracks the pan, and a cracked pan leaks into the floor below.
  • Water stains on the ceiling under the bathroom. By the time you see the stain, water has been moving for weeks or longer. The leak is almost always at the drain fitting or a failed caulk joint at the pan-to-surround seam.
  • Caulk that keeps splitting or peeling at the seams. Los Angeles homes settle, and seasonal drying shrinks framing. Oldcastle surrounds are rigid, so when the wall moves even an eighth of an inch, the caulk tears and water gets behind the panel.
  • Mold or mildew staining the surround’s lower corners. Not a cleaning problem, it’s moisture trapped behind the flange. Bleach won’t reach it because the water is behind the panel, not on the surface.
  • A drain that gurgles or holds water. On Oldcastle pans, the drain body can separate from the pipe below when the pan flexes. That gap lets sewer gas in and water out, both of which cause bigger problems the longer they sit.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A low-threshold walk-in shower with a bench and grab bar

A full Oldcastle bathroom remodel in Los Angeles runs $10,620 – $33,040. The spread comes down to three things: whether you’re swapping just the pan and surround or tearing out drywall and tile, which fixture line you choose (Kohler, Moen, or Toto all change the materials budget), and whether the subfloor or studs need repair once we open the wall. A pan-and-surround-only replacement lands at the lower end. A full gut with new fixtures, vanity, and waterproofing hits the upper range.

Every quote includes the written line-item price before work starts, the parts, the labor, haul-away of the old unit, and our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If it’s not done right, we make it right, in writing. You’ll also get before-and-after photos as the job progresses, and a live arrival time so you’re not waiting through a four-hour window. Call (254) 272-5876 and we’ll give you a firm number, not a ballpark.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check a few things yourself: look for the model number stamped on the underside of the pan or the back flange, check whether the pan flexes when you step in, and shine a light along the caulk lines to find splits. Those observations help us quote the job accurately over the phone.

What you shouldn’t do is pull the pan or surround yourself. Oldcastle units are glued and fastened to studs, and the drain connection is often solvent-welded. Cutting or prying without knowing what’s behind the wall risks hitting supply lines, and a cracked surround releases fiberglass dust you don’t want to breathe. We’ve also seen DIY removals where the drain pipe got nicked, doubling the repair cost. If the pan is cracked or the surround has separated, call (254) 272-5876. We’ll inspect it, quote it in writing, and you’ll know exactly what’s happening before any work begins.
