Oldcastle Fence Installation: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide
Oldcastle fence installation in Los Angeles typically runs $4,130 to $10,620 for a standard residential run, and we stock Oldcastle-compatible posts, panels, and hardware on our trucks so most repairs or full installs happen in a single visit. You’ll usually notice the problem first as a leaning section, a gate that drags, or a post that wobbles when you grab it. By the time a post moves, water has done its work below the soil line, and that’s where the real fix has to happen.
We’re an independent Los Angeles contractor, not affiliated with Oldcastle, but we install and repair their fence lines regularly. Here’s what you need to know before you spend a dollar.
Which Oldcastle Models This Applies To

Oldcastle fence systems fall into a few distinct lines, and the part that fits one won’t always fit another. The two most common in Los Angeles backyards are the Oldcastle vinyl privacy fence line, which uses interlocking tongue-and-groove panels that slide into routed posts, and their ornamental aluminum line, where panels bolt to pre-drilled post brackets. The vinyl line runs on 6-foot and 8-foot panel widths with posts that take either a 4×4 or 5×5 internal core, and mixing those widths on the same run is a common mistake. The aluminum line uses 2-1/4-inch square posts with powder-coated finish, and hardware is stainless but panel-to-post brackets are sized differently for flat versus scalloped top profiles.
Your post or panel will have a stamped code near the bottom rail or inside the post cap. Take a photo before you call anyone. The code tells us whether you need OEM Oldcastle or if a quality aftermarket equivalent from a supplier like Illusions or ActiveYards will match your existing profile. On older Oldcastle vinyl, the tongue profile changed around 2016, so a panel bought today may not seat into a post from 2014 without a shim. That’s the kind of compatibility gotcha we check before ordering.

Signs Your Oldcastle Fence Installation Is Failing
- Post lean at the base. Water pools around the post footing and softens the soil or rots the wood core inside vinyl posts. In Los Angeles clay soil, this accelerates after winter rains followed by summer dry cycles.
- Gate drags or won’t latch. The post holding the hinge side shifts outward, or the gate frame itself sags. Oldcastle aluminum gates rely on a diagonal brace; once that brace loosens, the gate corners torque and the latch misses.
- Vinyl panel pops out of the post channel. Heat expansion on unshaded south-facing runs in Los Angeles pushes panels tight against post channels. If the panel was cut too long during install, it buckles and pops when temperatures hit the 90s.
- Cracked or chalky vinyl surface. Vinyl exposed to direct Los Angeles sun for 10-plus years starts to oxidize. A crack at the bottom rail or post corner means the structural integrity is gone, not just the color.
- Rust streaks on aluminum posts. The powder coat wears thin at screw holes and bracket edges. Once bare aluminum shows and the steel hardware rusts, the connection point is compromised and will only get worse.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For a full Oldcastle fence installation in Los Angeles, labor and materials combined land between $4,130 and $10,620 depending on linear footage, gate count, and whether posts need concrete footings rebuilt. A single section repair, one post and one panel, usually runs $350 to $800. A gate replacement with hardware lands closer to $500 to $1,500 depending on width and whether the post needs resetting.
| Job Type | Los Angeles Installed Price | What’s Included |
|---|---|---|
| Full Oldcastle vinyl fence (60 – 100 linear feet) | $4,130 – $10,620 | Panels, posts, concrete footings, gates, hardware, haul-away |
| Oldcastle aluminum fence (60 – 100 linear feet) | $4,720 – $11,800 | Panels, posts, brackets, gates, concrete, all hardware |
| Single section repair (post + panel) | $350 – $800 | New post set in concrete, panel matched to existing line |
| Gate replacement with new hardware | $500 – $1,500 | Gate frame, hinges, latch, post shim or reset |
The range depends on soil conditions, access to your yard, and whether the old concrete footings need jackhammered out. We write the price before work starts and it doesn’t change at the door. Every Oldcastle fence installation we do carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it’s not done right, we make it right, in writing.
DIY or Call Us?
If a fence panel is loose in the channel, you can sometimes tap it back into place with a rubber mallet. If a gate hinge screw has backed out, you can tighten it. That’s about where safe DIY ends. Setting a post in concrete requires digging below the clay line, usually 24 to 30 inches in Los Angeles, and if the old post was anchored in a footing that has shifted, you’re digging that entire footing out before you can start fresh. Vinyl panels can be heavy and awkward, and cracking one while manhandling it turns a $400 repair into a $1,200 one. When we install, we warranty the work for a full year. If the repair fails, the second visit is free.
If you’d rather not dig, call (254) 272-5876 and we’ll take care of it.
Can you fix an Oldcastle fence post instead of replacing it?
Yes, in many cases we can reset a leaning post by removing the old footing, re-leveling, and setting it in fresh concrete, but that’s only worth doing if the post itself isn’t cracked or rusted. A post that has shifted in soft Los Angeles clay often gets a larger footing the second time around, which means digging a wider hole than the original. If the post itself is damaged, replacing it outright is cheaper than trying to brace a compromised piece.

AfterHow long does an Oldcastle fence last in Los Angeles?
An Oldcastle vinyl fence installed correctly in Los Angeles should last 20 to 30 years, and an aluminum line can go longer if the powder coat is maintained. The factors that shorten that lifespan are unshaded southern exposure, irrigation overspray at the base, and soil movement during wet winters and dry summers. We see most issues start at the post base, not the panels themselves. If you need help deciding whether to repair or replace, call (254) 272-5876 for an honest assessment.
Do you stock Oldcastle fence parts on the truck?
We stock common Oldcastle-compatible vinyl panels, aluminum panels, post caps, brackets, hinges, and latches on our service trucks, so most single-section repairs don’t require a follow-up visit. For non-standard colors, older tongue profiles, or specialty gate hardware, we order from the supplier and schedule the install once parts land, usually within a few days. If you’re not sure what you need, send us a photo of the stamped code on the post or panel and we’ll identify it before we schedule.
How long does an Oldcastle fence installation take?
A single post and panel replacement takes two to three hours including concrete set time. A full 60-to-100-foot run with two gates usually takes two to three days from tear-out to final walkthrough. Los Angeles soil conditions can add time if old footings have to be broken out, but we’ll tell you before we start. Call (254) 272-5876 for a free estimate and a written price before any work begins.
FAQs

An Oldcastle vinyl fence lasts 20 to 30 years in Los Angeles if posts are set below the clay line with proper concrete footings and panels are allowed room to expand and contract with heat. Post bases fail first, not panels. Call (254) 272-5876 for an exact quote, estimates are free.
It depends on the damage. Minor scratches and surface chalk can be cleaned or touched up, but a cracked panel, a popped tongue channel, or a broken bottom rail means the panel is done. Vinyl can’t be structurally glued back together in a way that survives Los Angeles sun and wind. Call (254) 272-5876 and a tech will tell you straight.
A single post and panel swap takes two to three hours. A full fence run with gates takes two to three days. We set the concrete, let it cure, and then come back to hang panels and gates so everything stays square.
We stock common Oldcastle-compatible vinyl and aluminum panels, posts, caps, brackets, hinges, and latches on the truck. For uncommon colors or older profiles, we order and install within a few days. Send us a photo of the stamped code on your post or panel and we’ll confirm before we schedule.
If your Oldcastle fence is leaning, dragging, or starting to crack, don’t wait until a post gives out entirely. Call (254) 272-5876 and we’ll come out, look at the line, and give you a written price before any work starts. We’re the one call that gets answered by a live person, and the number you approve is the number you pay.
