Schluter Fence Installation: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

Schluter fence installation in Los Angeles typically runs $4,130 to $10,620 installed, and most swaps we handle are done in a single day once the matched profile is on hand. You’ll usually know something’s off before you see it, honestly. The tell is a slight give when you lean against the fence panel, or a hairline crack running along the edge trim where the Schluter profile meets the post. That’s the waterproofing barrier telling you it’s been compromised, and in LA’s wet-winter/dry-summer cycle, it only gets worse from there.

We’re Sawyer Remodeling, and we’re an independent contractor, not affiliated with Schluter. But we’ve been installing and repairing Schluter-profile fence assemblies across Los Angeles long enough to know that the failure almost always starts the same way: UV degradation of the edge trim followed by water intrusion at the seam.

Which Schluter Models This Applies To

Most Schluter fence installations we see in Los Angeles use profiles from the Schluter-DECO or Schluter-JOLLY series, though we’ve also matched parts for older Schluter-RONDEC edges on custom gates. The part you need depends on two things: the profile height (measured in millimeters from the tile surface to the top of the trim) and the material finish (anodized aluminum, stainless steel, or PVC).

Here’s the compatibility gotcha that catches a lot of homeowners: Schluter changed the anchoring flange depth on JOLLY profiles about nine years back. If your fence was installed before that retooling, the old profile won’t seat cleanly against the new run. You need either a NOS (new old stock) match or a profile from the current run plus a slight channel adjustment. We carry both on the truck. As for OEM versus aftermarket: for fence assemblies that take direct sun, we recommend genuine Schluter profiles. The aftermarket aluminum equivalents are usually thinner gauge and they’ll warp within two summers in Los Angeles heat. We stock genuine Schluter edge trim, matching corners, and end caps, and we’re also set up to source parts for KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone on the rare jobs where a fence butts against those materials.

Signs Your Schluter Fence Installation Is Failing

  • Hairline cracking along the edge trim. The profile expands and contracts with Los Angeles temperature swings. After enough cycles, the aluminum fatigues and the crack opens. That crack is the entry point for water.
  • A soft spot at the fence base. Water gets behind the profile, sits against the substrate, and the panel starts to flex. If you press the base and it moves more than a few millimeters, the support behind it is going soft.
  • White chalky residue on the profile surface. That’s oxidation on anodized aluminum. It’s cosmetic at first, but the underlying pitting is where corrosion starts eating the profile from the outside in.
  • Rust staining at the corners. If you see rust, the profile is not stainless and not properly anodized. It’s likely an aftermarket equivalent that’s failing. This needs replacement, not remediation.
  • The fence no longer drains after rain. Schluter profiles are designed to channel water away from the structure. If water pools at the base after a Los Angeles storm, the drainage path is blocked or the trim is seated wrong.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Scope Installed Price Range (Los Angeles)
Single panel Schluter profile replacement $4,130 – $6,490
Multi-panel fence edge replacement with corner matching $6,490 – $8,850
Full fence assembly rebuild with Schluter-DECO profiles $8,850 – $10,620

The spread comes down to two things: how many linear feet of profile need matching, and whether the substrate behind the profile has to be repaired before the new trim goes on. We give you a line-item quote before we start, not a number pulled from the air. That quote includes the new Schluter profile, the demolition of the failed edge trim, substrate prep, installation, and disposal. Every Schluter fence installation we do in Los Angeles carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it’s not right, we make it right, in writing. No change orders, no surprise line items.

DIY or Call Us?

You can absolutely check the profile number yourself. Look for the stamped code on the inside edge of the trim. Write that down, snap a photo of the profile cross-section, and shoot it to us. That tells us what we’re matching before we ever roll a truck. What you shouldn’t do is pull the profile yourself. The substrate behind a failed Schluter edge is often already water-compromised, and removing the trim without the right backing support is how a fence panel ends up on the ground. If there’s any chance of water damage behind the profile, you want a trained professional handling the tear-out. Call us at (254) 272-5876 and we’ll talk through what you’re seeing.
