Schluter Windows & Doors: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

Schluter window and door installation in Los Angeles typically runs $5,310 to $17,700 for full replacements, with parts-only repairs for Schluter edge trim, drip caps, and sealing profiles usually landing between $200 and $700 installed. We stock the most common Schluter KERDI and DITRA-compatible trim profiles on our trucks, so a failed part is often matched and swapped the same visit.

Most Los Angeles homeowners don’t discover a Schluter part has failed until water shows up where it shouldn’t. You’ll notice staining at the sill, a window that suddenly sticks, or trim that’s pulled away from the wall. That’s the moment to act, because water intrusion in an LA stucco wall doesn’t dry out on its own. It sits there, feeds mold, and works its way into the framing.

Which Schluter Models This Applies To

Schluter doesn’t manufacture full windows or doors as a unit. What they make, and what we regularly service, are the integration profiles that waterproof the transition between a window or door frame and the surrounding tile, stucco, or drywall. Think Schluter KERDI-FLEX strips, KERDI-BOARD window reveals, DILEX movement joints, and RONDEC or QUADEC edge trim used around window niches and door thresholds.

The compatibility gotcha most people hit: KERDI profiles are designed for specific substrate thicknesses, and an off-shelf big-box trim won’t match a 1/2-inch KERDI-BOARD install the same way a genuine Schluter profile will. That 2mm difference is why a window leaks six months after a “universal” trim was caulked in. We measure the reveal, match the profile series, and seal it the way Schluter’s system intends.

OEM vs aftermarket: we use genuine Schluter profiles for waterproofing-critical joints. For purely cosmetic edge trim, quality aftermarket aluminum in the same gauge and finish works fine at a lower price. We’ll tell you which is which before you spend a dollar.

Signs Your Schluter Windows & Doors Installation Is Failing

  • Water staining at the sill or lower corners. This means the KERDI overlap at the window pan has failed or was never lapped correctly. Water is traveling behind the tile or stucco, not evaporating in LA’s dry heat like people assume.
  • Visible gap between trim and wall. Schluter profiles are bonded with thin-set and sealed with KERDI-FIX. When they pull away, it’s almost always because the substrate wasn’t primed or the wrong adhesive was used.
  • Condensation or fog between glass panes. The window unit itself has lost its seal. Schluter trim won’t fix this, but we coordinate the trim replacement with a glazing swap so you’re not paying for two service calls.
  • Crumbling plaster or drywall around the frame. Water’s been getting in for a while. By the time you see this, the Schluter profile has likely been compromised for months, and there’s hidden damage behind the wall.
  • Door threshold that’s soft or spongy. This is a failed sill integration. The Schluter profile at the threshold joint is allowing water to wick into the subfloor. Fix it before the framing rots and you’re into a structural repair.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A remodeled hall bathroom with patterned floor tile and painted walls

For a Schluter window trim and sealing repair on a standard 3-by-4-foot opening in Los Angeles, you’re looking at $200 to $500 installed, depending on whether we’re replacing a simple RONDEC profile or re-doing a full KERDI waterproofing lap. A full window replacement with new Schluter integration lands in the $5,310 to $17,700 range, and a door replacement with proper threshold waterproofing typically runs $4,720 to $11,800.

Every quote we write in Los Angeles is line-item and fixed. The price you approve is the price you pay. That includes removal of the old profile, substrate inspection, new Schluter materials, and sealing. If we find rot or mold behind the wall, we stop and show you photos before touching it. No surprise change orders.

The 365-Day Done Right Promise covers every Schluter repair we do. If the joint fails within a year, we come back and make it right, in writing, no argument.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check a few things yourself. Press the trim gently around the frame. If it flexes or moves, that’s a failed bond. Look for gaps in caulk at the sill. Check for dampness after rain. These are diagnostics, not repairs.

Where DIY goes wrong with Schluter: the materials aren’t forgiving. KERDI-FIX cures fast, thin-set needs the right trowel size and substrate prep, and a single misaligned overlap defeats the entire waterproofing system. If you’re working on a second-story window over a stucco wall, the ladder risk is real. Call us at (254) 272-5876 and we’ll get someone out to look.
