Unilock Driveway & Pavers: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide
If you have a Unilock paver driveway that’s shifting, sinking, or showing cracked units, we can source matching pavers and install replacements. Most Unilock driveway repairs in Los Angeles run between $826 and $2,124 depending on square footage, paver style, and base repair depth. The typical call we get starts with a homeowner noticing one paver rocking underfoot, a low spot pooling water after rain, or a crack spreading across a section that gets direct afternoon sun. By the time it’s visible, the base beneath has usually been failing quietly for a season or two.
Which Unilock Models This Applies To
Unilock’s lineup breaks into a few distinct families: the Estate Series (Brussels Block, Courtstone, Mattoni), the Elegance Series (Richcliff, Beacon Hill Flagstone, Treo), the U-Cara Multi-Face Wall System, and the EnduraColor architectural finishes that use concentrated color in the surface layer. Each series cuts to different dimensions. Brussels Block, for example, is 6″ x 9″ and 60mm thick, while Richcliff runs up to 24″ x 36″ slabs at 50mm. Mixing a 50mm paver into a 60mm course creates a tripping edge and a cracked paver within months. If you still have the original pallet ticket or a leftover paver from install, that’s the fastest way to confirm the exact series, color blend, and thickness. We are an independent contractor and not affiliated with Unilock, but we work with their full catalog and can identify most pavers from a photo.

Signs Your Unilock Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
- Rocking pavers underfoot. A single paver that tips when stepped on means the bedding sand beneath it has washed out. This usually starts at the driveway edge or anywhere water shears across the surface.
- Low spots that pool water after rain. Los Angeles sees sudden deluges after months of dry soil. If water stands in one area for more than an hour, the base has settled unevenly and that section will keep dropping.
- Hairline cracks running through multiple pavers. That pattern points to a failing base layer, not just a bad paver. A cracked surface unit can be swapped in 30 minutes; a cracked base means pulling up the pattern, re-compacting, and relaying.
- Sand loss at joints and edges. Fine sand leaching out after every rain or hose-down signals that the edge restraint is loose. Without re-joining and tightening the edge, adjacent pavers start to drift and create gaps.
- Efflorescence or flaking surface color. White chalky buildup is trapped moisture, common near planter beds and irrigation overspray. Flaking on colored pavers means the surface layer has delaminated, which is a materials issue best handled by replacing the affected units.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

Here’s what Unilock driveway and paver work costs in Los Angeles right now:
- Single paver swap or edge repair: $295 – $825
- Partial driveway re-level and re-lay (up to 200 sq ft): $826 – $2,124
- Full paver driveway installation: $8,260 – $21,240
- Paver patio installation: $4,130 – $12,980
The spread comes down to three things: paver series cost, base condition, and access. A Richcliff slab replacement costs more per unit than Brussels Block, and a driveway section that needs the base re-excavated, re-compacted, and topped with fresh crushed aggregate and sand is a different job than plucking out one cracked paver. Every quote is a written line-item price before work starts. You approve the number, and that’s the number on the invoice. The work carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if a repair fails within a year, we return and correct it at no charge.
DIY or Call Us?
Pavers are one of the safer DIY surfaces to inspect, and we’ll tell you what you can check on your own. Walk the driveway after rain and mark low spots with chalk. Run your shoe across the edge and see if any pavers shift. Check the perimeter for loose edging. What you should avoid is pulling up more than a single paver yourself. Once you disturb the sand bedding and base, re-compacting to spec requires a plate compactor and the right fill layers. A homeowner with a shovel and good intentions can turn a $500 repair into a $2,000 re-lay in an afternoon. If the damage is a single cracked unit and you can confidently identify the series, it’s a quick call. If anything is moving underfoot, call (254) 272-5876 before you dig.
FAQs

Unilock pavers themselves carry a transferable lifetime warranty and routinely last 25 to 40 years in our climate. The limiting factor in Los Angeles is the base beneath them. Our shrink-swell clay soils move with rain and drought cycles, which is why we re-compact bases and use geotextile fabric on full installs. The paver rarely dies; the base gives out first. If your driveway is 15 years old and starting to shift, call (254) 272-5876 and we’ll assess whether it’s a base fix or full re-lay.
No. Pavers are through-body units; a crack is a structural failure. Surface patching products don’t bond cleanly to concrete pavers that flex with temperature swings. The correct fix is replacing the individual unit, which is usually a 30-minute job when we have the matching series on hand. We’ll cut out the damaged paver, reset the bedding sand, and drop in a new one. For matching older color blends that Unilock has since discontinued, we source from local paver supply yards in the San Fernando Valley and South Bay that keep backstock.
Most single-paver replacements and small section repairs are done in one visit, roughly 1 to 3 hours depending on how many units are involved. Partial re-levels up to 200 square feet usually take one full day, including base recompaction and joint sand application. Full driveway installations run 3 to 7 days depending on excavation, permits, and paver series lead time. We’ll confirm the schedule window in your written quote before any work starts.
We keep common Brussels Block and Courtstone units in stone-gray and tan blends on our trucks, along with bedding sand, joint sand, and edge restraint. Specialty series like Richcliff, Treo, and U-Cara are ordered per job with a 3 to 10 day lead time from LA area Unilock distribution yards. Send us a photo of your existing paver and we’ll tell you within a day whether we can match it same-week. Call (254) 272-5876.
