Common Questions

Do I need remodeling or construction experience to own a Sawyer Remodeling franchise?
No, but you need to respect the trade. The sawyer is the tradesperson who cuts the lumber, and our name puts that craft up front. We look for owners who can run a business: hire, manage, sell, and hold people accountable. Our operations training covers the construction side of the business, from estimating to job-site management. If you’ve never swung a hammer, that’s not a dealbreaker. If you’ve never held a budget, we should talk about that.
What’s the total investment range to open a Sawyer Remodeling location?
The total investment range depends on your market size, real estate costs, and the scope of your initial buildout, but most franchise candidates should plan for a range that reflects the cost of opening a professional remodeling business. That includes franchise fee, vehicle and equipment, initial inventory, training, and working capital for the first several months of operation. We’ll give you a written breakdown of every line item during the discovery process, the same way we give homeowners a written price before work starts. No mystery numbers, ever.
Is financing available for the franchise fee or startup costs?
We don’t offer financing directly, and we won’t make promises about what a bank will do. We can point you toward third-party lenders who work with franchise candidates, and we’ll walk you through what they typically look for. Many owners fund part of their startup through SBA-backed loans or personal capital. The important thing is that you see the full financial picture before you sign anything, no surprises tucked into the fine print.
Will I have an exclusive territory for my Sawyer Remodeling location?
Each location is an independent local business, and territory protection is part of how we structure franchise agreements. The specifics depend on your market’s population, housing density, and existing coverage. We’ll show you the exact territory map during discovery, before you commit. You deserve to know exactly where you can operate and where another Sawyer Remodeling location might sit.
How long does training take before I can open?
Initial training runs several weeks and blends classroom work with hands-on field time at an operating location. You’ll learn estimating, project management, The Relay Standard, hiring, and the software that runs the daily schedule. After your doors open, we keep training you: ongoing refreshers, new material partner updates, and operations calls. The goal is that you walk onto your first job site already knowing how the system works.
Are there ongoing fees or royalties? How do they work?
Yes, like most franchise systems, there are ongoing fees; a royalty based on your gross revenue and a contribution toward brand-level support and training. The exact percentages and structure are spelled out in the Franchise Disclosure Document, which you’ll receive early in the process. We believe fees should be predictable and tied to your top line, so when you’re not making money, neither are we. You’ll know the full fee structure before you spend a dollar on a lawyer.
How long does it take to open a Sawyer Remodeling location after signing?
Most owners open their doors within four to eight months of signing their franchise agreement, depending on how quickly they secure a location, complete training, and hire their first crew. Remodeling businesses don’t need a storefront, so you’re not waiting on a retail buildout. You need a shop or office space, a vehicle, tools, and people. We’ll give you a realistic timeline during discovery and hold you to it once you’re in.
What support do franchisees get after opening?
You get the systems that run the business, not a binder and a handshake. That means live support for the software that schedules jobs, tracks arrival times, and sends photo updates to homeowners. You get access to our material partners: KraftMaid and Wellborn cabinetry, Cambria and Caesarstone countertops, Kohler and Toto fixtures, GAF and James Hardie exteriors. And you get a team that answers when you call. Each location is independently owned and operated, but you’re not out there alone. The Relay Standard is the operating system, and we hold every location to it.
Who is the ideal Sawyer Remodeling franchisee?
Someone who is organized, direct, and genuinely likes building things, whether that’s a bathroom or a team. You don’t need to be a tradesperson, but you need to care about the work. Our customers are homeowners in their late twenties to mid-forties who book everything on their phones and expect to track progress. If you get frustrated by inefficiency, if you’re the person who always wants to know what’s happening and when, you’ll fit right in. If you’d rather delegate everything and not know how your business runs, this isn’t it.
What’s the next step if I’m interested?
You start a conversation. We’ll send you an initial questionnaire, then schedule a call to see if this is a real fit. From there, we walk you through the FDD, connect you with current franchisees, and give you the numbers. There’s no pressure and no countdown timers. You’ll know if it’s right for you, and we’ll know if you’re right for us.
